Eric Cantor announced Wednesday he will step down as House majority leader on July 31 after suffering a stunning primary loss, touching off a leadership scramble at the top tiers of the Republican Party.
Fox News is told a new leadership election will be held June 19, a little more than a week from now. Cantor, who said he will serve out the remainder of his seventh term as a Virginia congressman, told reporters he made the decision to give up his majority leader post with "great humility."
While he won't be on the ballot in November, he said, "I will be a champion for conservatives across the nation."
Cantor threw his support behind House GOP Whip Kevin McCarthy for the post, offering his "full support" and saying "he'd make an outstanding majority leader."

I remember when Cantor first came on the scene in the House - he seemed to be a very good and positive guy, and as conservative as you could hope for, So what happened? Did he ‘grow in office’? Was he always a wolf in sheep’s clothing? What a disappointment.

already he isn't if he is putting his support behind McCarthy for House Majority Leader...
rumour has it at least a dozen ‘rank’ Rs are polling their comrades..

as the state of deterioration of the long-term ol’ boy leadership of the GOP accelerates.
I think the plan is to make the election of a conservative instead of McCarthy look like a big concession to conservatives.
Actually the need for a more conservative Leadership has been blatantly obvious for a long time and has been the cause of great trouble in the caucus.
Strikingly, Cantor’s defeat should itself be laid at the feet of the un-conservative House Leadership.
I say make Dave Brat the House leader.
Radio host Michael Medved was all upset today. I even heard him say how wonderful Lindsay Graham was, that the vote was not about amnesty....!. Meanwhile Sean Hannity was on the mark criticizing the republicans for not listening to the people.

By stepping down immediately, Cantor enables the current Republican caucus to elect his successor. If he were to serve through the remainder of this Congress, then the new caucus with many more Conservative would select the Majority Leader. Of course, there will be a new election within the new caucus in January, but they are much less likely to throw out an incumbent. See how politics works?

On the positive side, if their choice screams business as usual, it increases the odds of a revolt next January where Bonehead gets tossed.
Cantor has spoken publicly twice since he lost. I didn’t hear him even mention Brat either time. What an arrogant pos!
