Fred Thompson never won a primary in 2008 (he was my guy, too). He finished 2nd in Wyoming, 3rd in Iowa and South Carolina.

I don't recall Brit Hume having a mad-on for Fred, either. He certainly had issues with Newt Gingrich in 2012, though.

No, he never won a primary, but there was one where he came in ahead of Romney. Sorry I wasn’t clear on that. Fox News was acting as if it was only Romney versus the other primary contender ahead of him.
