Obama was not Kenyan because his father was. We still don’t know for sure where he WAS born, only that he said he was born there, but later retracted that. For all we know, he was born in HI, but his father was a British subject at the time, and he was not in HI as a refugee or political anything. He was a student. PERIOD. Cruz’s father had left Cuba for political reasons. He may not have been a citizen yet, but I think he had already applied for citizenship. These are not two peas in the same pod. There is a big difference. Ted’s mother was a US citizen, and she was of age, and they were only in Canada because of Ted’s father having a job there. They had not become Canadian citizens. All kids born to military parents in other countries, while stationed there, are citizens of that country. They have dual citizenship until the parent declares them US citizens. Normally that happens when they apply for the SS number and for the US passport. So, it is short-lived. Obama’s mother was not of age to confer US citizenship on him, if he were born in Kenya. She was only 17. That is why it IS important where Obama was born.

Actually Rafael Sr was a Canadian citizen at the time of Ted’s birth. He apparently was no longer Cuban. Rafael Sr did not become an American until 2005.
