“Cantor” is Latin for “singer.” The lead singer in the Catholic church is also called a “cantor.”

There is a Hebrew word as well but a lot of synagogues don’t use it.

I had five years of Latin in the 60’s, and I had completely forgotten that.

I may have “lost” my Latin, but I still remember my Goldwater Conservatism!
