The church in Acts did not overthrow the Roman occupation.

Exactly...because the root of all of this is NOT political. It’s a spiritual Kingdom that will endure. Even the Apostles, who were taught and formed by Jesus Himself, only slowly came to understand this. We do know though, that a virtuous leader chosen by God, can have a profound influence on those he leads.
He can, and sometimes God chooses a heathen….Nebudchadnezzar for instance.
