More likely a derogatory name for New York Dutch, from Jan-Kees (a typical name) or Janke (a diminutive of the Dutch name Jan).
Yankee is similar to the Chinese for English: ying guo.

I didn’t know that. But I would imagine that maybe the Chinese is imitating “yankee.”

I know, for example, that in Thai, a westerner is called a “farang.” That comes from “france.” Maybe 150 years ago Thais lumped all white westerners together and called them “french.”
