John Boehner: Send the National Guard to secure U.S.-Mexico border
Washington Examiner ^ | June 20 2014 | Sean Lengell

House Speaker John Boehner called on President Obama to send the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border to help push back a surge of illegal immigrants -- many of them children -- from Central America.

“Our country is facing a national security and humanitarian crisis along our southern border,” the Ohio Republican said in a letter Friday to the president. “Thousands of children and families are pouring across our borders, overwhelming our resources and endangering those most vulnerable to exploitation.”

Boehner said the National Guard is "uniquely qualified" to respond to such a crisis because it's "able to help deal with both the needs of these children and families as well as relieve the Border Patrol to focus on their primary duty of securing our border." Border Patrol agents could apprehend as many as 90,000 children traveling alone this year trying to illegally cross the Mexican border, more than three times the number of children apprehended in 2013, according to a draft internal Homeland Security memorandum reviewed by the Associated Press. The number could soar to 142,000 by 2015, the memo says.

Boehner blamed the problem on Obama administration immigration policies he said have given migrants false hope “that once they reach U.S. soil, they will be able to stay here indefinitely.”

“While we understand that many of these individuals are coming to this country to escape violence and hardship in their home country, the current climate along the border and our enforcement policies are only encouraging them to risk their lives and those of their children,” he said.

Boehner wants the administration to enter talks with the Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras governments to ensure that apprehended migrants are “promptly and efficiently” returned to their home countries.

He added the State Department should work with the countries "to design and execute an aggressive communications effort to fully articulate the dangers and struggles children and families will face if they attempt to migrate to the U.S."

The speaker blamed the Mexican government for exacerbating the problem, saying lax enforcement at Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala and Belize “have given a free pass to immigrants heading north.”

“It is time that we confront the crisis along the border head-on through immediate and aggressive action,” Boehner said. “We can no longer tolerate the conditions threatening these children, nor continue to accept the risks of a porous southern border.”

Funny, we were just talking about that. Good of Boehner to join in instead of pushing for amnesty.

Blah, blah, blah... Boehner is great for saying the right thing when he knows there isn't a hope in hell of Obama taking action on it - but when it comes time for him to do the right thing, when he's in a position to actually do something (advance Conservatism, oppose Liberalism), he's always AWOL.

like i keep saying, call this what it really is -

its not a “crisis” or “immigration issue”.

its an INVASION and by the constitution, the federal government is mandated to REPEL and STOP it !

Ø will solve this while furthering his Agenda... so, the National Guard will prepare formula, change diapers while families and kids are bused to other states and flown to military bases like Hanscom field.

No, under the circumstances, the best path is the one that would be taken by Perry/Brewer - calls by their governors to their state guard units to enforce existing law, and close the border.

One other thing, Perry said last night he was doing that with the state guard and some police. BOR asked him what happens when the apprehend someone. Perry said they are bound to turn them over to the immigration authorities.

Wanna keep people out....blow the bridges, close the borders. In the open lands place claymores and M-60 emplacements. Border sealed.

What a CF.

Perry said they are bound to turn them over to the immigration authorities

Who then puts them on a bus or plane to someplace, USA.

So what's the point of intercepting them?

“we understand that many of these individuals are coming to this country to escape violence and hardship in their home country”

Wrong, Suntan Johnny. They’re here for the freebies that you, Cantor, Ryan, McCarthy, Obummer, Reid, and Pelousy have so generously offered them.

This must be repelled at the border, without these invaders being allowed to make it to the interior where Homeland Insecurity will transport them to various sites around the country preparatory to giving them permanent residence status, then their registered Dim voter ID cards.

It hasn’t happened, lately. It should have happened yesterday, or before. Or, a long time ago.

"BOR asked him what happens when the apprehend someone. (Gov.) Perry said they are bound to turn them over to the immigration authorities."...

Therein lies the rub...ICE or whatever it is has dropped the ball all over the place, either intentionally or because of understaffing or because of "rules" put into place by (who else) the Obama-appointed Democrat Senate confirmed agency heads.

Good for Boehner, though!!

Does anyone else find it ironic that we have so much security at our airports when we have an open border with Mexico?

Has anyone tallied the number of murders and homicides committed by illegal immigrants over the last 10 years?

How do unaccompanied three year old children get from Honduras to Texas?

So many questions, so little interest from the media.

So what’s the point of intercepting them?

Exactly why it is an administrative CF.

See, the salient point is: THESE are children.

Deputize citizens to go down and stand guard on private ranch/farmland, state parks and along roadways within a couple of miles of the border. Catch’em, detain’em, turn’em over to the sheriff and TXDPS.
