The Pope's attack on capitalism shows he knows nothing about how the world really works

The Pope’s latest critique this week was equally unfounded, blaming speculators for high food prices. “The few derive immense wealth from financial speculation while the many are deeply burdened by the consequences,” he said, claiming that “speculation on food prices is a scandal which seriously compromises access to food on the part of the poorest members of our human family”.

*snip*

Those who buy and sell and seek to predict the future perform a crucial and legitimate social function; without them, the economy would lurch from over-supply to under-supply. Markets would be horrendously opaque and illiquid, with some consumers paying far more than others for identical products. When the price of food goes up, it means experts collectively feel demand will rise or supply will fall; thanks to such speculation, market prices are the best possible early warning signal. They allow farmers to plant more of the right kinds of crops, and futures markets allow them to insure themselves against price changes. Speculators who keep getting it wrong go bust.

“trickle down economics”, that is a construction by people who are against free markets”

WEll, if you think Reagan was against free markets, that’s just too much for me. I’m out of this conversation

Nancy Pelosi is a pro-abortion “Catholic” who has cut all ties to Rome.

She just took communion at the Vatican not very long ago, she was with fellow Catholic Joe Biden, who also took communion and met with his Pope.

It makes sense that the Pope wouldn’t understand the workings of capitalism. And I say this as a Catholic. He sticks out an empty hand, and, as if by some miracle, returns it full of cash. If he were to understand that more money extorted from those filling his hand meant that his hand would remain empty, he might give his ideas further thought.

That’s what I was thinking. If he had a few meetings with some good Catholic businessmen and women, they might enlighten him as to where the money comes from for humanitarian projects.

There’s something wrong there, then. Nancy is a believer in abortion and gay marriage, yet the Vatican claims to be otherwise. If a day comes when the Vatican changes it’s stance because it wants to be more “inclusive”, I’ll stop being one. The broad road is the one that leads to destruction.

Think of Ted Kennedy, one of our most evil politicians, yet look at the parting message the Catholic church gave to Catholic voters upon his death (just in case they missed it during his long life as a Kennedy).

Maybe we can't be educated after a certain age. I'm 64 and pray I'm not there yet.

There has to be someone in Rome who can give Francis a clue.

Maybe we can't be educated after a certain age.

I think that's an old wives tale. From what I hear, companies that are hiring old guys and gals are ecstatic with their performance and work ethic.

We don't move quite as fast as we use to, but we get 'er done.;-)

I think if you follow Fr Z’s blog you will find support for the 1st 2 statements. I too am frustrated by the Pope’s at times worldly concerns. His statements only cause confusion among the flock.

Look - I despise Ted Kennedy as much as any conservative but he did meet with a priest and (most likely) made a confession and was given last rites. Since he died in a state of grace, he was entitled to a Church funeral. Something about mercy and such...

LOL, from cradle to grave, no wonder Catholics vote democrat.

At age seven, he received his First Communion from Pope Pius XII in the Vatican. Ted took communion at the Papal Mass in 2008, was blessed on his death bed by Pope Benedict XVI, responding to a letter hand delivered to his Pope by the leader of his party, President Obama.

“I have always tried to be a faithful Catholic, Your Holiness, and though I have fallen short through human failings, I have never failed to believe and respect the fundamental teachings. I continue to pray for God’s blessings on you and our Church and would be most thankful for your prayers for me.”
