A gang of men attacked an American student while he was drinking in the street - grabbing a glass bottle from his hands and smashing it over his head, a court was told.

Francesco Hounye, 23, from Florida, had been in Britain for just three days when he was set upon by the men while he was walking home with a friend in Shadwell, east London.

Shaleem Uddin, 20, Shadhat Hussain, 19, Kamrul Hussain, 22, and Massom Rahman, 22, targeted Mr Hounye when they saw him swigging from a bottle of Jagermeister.

(VIDEO)

They then chased him, beat him, and smashed the bottle over his head, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Are Brits known for being so “wordly”? What about Mexicans? Brazilians? How about Iraqis or Indians?

To conclude, I believe I live in a far safer country than yours. I believe the UK does not come anywhere near the US in terms of all crime, when all crime is collated. I think its equally ridiculous to assert that the UK is a very dangerous and violent country (even if its more violent than in the past) and/or that the US is a nation with low crime and less violent than the UK.

To finish, here’s a little fact: in the 25 yrs of the terrorism in Northern Ireland (the IRA etc), 3000 people were killed by all the terrorist groups and by the British army/NI police fighting said terrorists.

That is LESS than the YEARLY murders in either Detroit or Chicago!. You were actually SAFER living in the one part of the UK with terrorism than you were living in an American city.....

-——Americans are equally stereotyped as loud, obnoxious -—

You are speaking of New Yorkers, not Americans

Perhaps the Empire and Commonwealth mean the British have more of a interest in the world, more of a grasp of countries, history and culture.

Its a gross stereotype that Americans are ignorant and care little about whats outside America. Like any gross stereotype, by definition, its unfair, but perhaps does have a grain of truth.

Now let me make it clear: I don’t believe that because Americans are stupid, of course not, I blame your education systems, and your media.

By the way, the Brits and other western nations are not as smart and educated as they once were. So I sitting in no ivory tower sneering at you.

We are equally not what we once were.

p.s thank you for your service to your country, and in Iraq. I hope you and your men all came home safe. My prayers for those who didn’t.

I also know that there are many safe, non violent areas and parts of the US, only an idiot would believe that the

I really, really don’t want to seem as if I am bashing America. I am simply standing up for the UK.

I love America, love travelling in it, I love the diverse cultures and people, and above all the complete friendliness of the people all over. I have never had a bad experience in the US. Quite the opposite. Being Scottish and British.

I in fact lived in America from May 2004 to Aug 2005, in Florida, working for a Scottish/British company, and loved it.

I don’t want to give the impression that I am bashing or putting down America, that’s not my intent, but I worry that my posts here might give that impression.

If I have given that impression, I apologise.

As an exercise, read about the Overmountain men that banded together in 1780 to cross from East Tennessee into North and South Carolina and fight and win the Battle of Kings Mountain. It was this British defeat that turned the tide of the Revolution by seriously eroding General Cornwallis’ force.

The Americans were pretty much all Scotch Presbyterians fed up with the British burning of churches and killing people. To this day, the population in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia have Scotch roots.

‘Do not call this an American Revolution. It is a Scotch Presbyterian revolution’

Fun fact: a the British forces who fought in the AWoI here disproportionately Irish and Scottish, and the American Patriots where primarily of English (and particularly East Anglia) descent.
