Thad Cochran camp says 35,000 Dems crossed over to vote for the incumbent

The Chris McDaniel camp is crying foul over the Cochran campaign's outreach to Democrats in the state, and even the incumbent's advisors admit the cross over votes from Democrats made the difference.

But as this Politico autopsy on the race shows, Cochran was able to eke out a narrow victory thanks to a truly massive effort in both Washington and Mississippi involving millions of dollars and thousands of volunteers:

Dogged ahead of the primary by complaints about a lackluster field program and an unfocused campaign message (and candidate), Cochran’s campaign moved swiftly to reorient its operations for a second election on June 24. Austin Barbour, a top Cochran adviser and former campaign manager for Sen. Roger Wicker, took over the leadership of the organization. Former state GOP Chairman Brad White joined the team to help drive the get-out-the-vote effort. Kirk Sims, up to that point the top staffer on the race, stepped back for personal reasons.

The NRSC gave its field staff a weekend off – and then redeployed them back to the state. Before the primary, the committee had several dozen campaign workers on the ground knocking on doors for Cochran. For the runoff, 45 staff members and volunteers returned. Targeting high-propensity Republican voters, they knocked on 50,000 doors between the two votes. From the basement of the NRSC, campaign workers placed 18,000 calls into Mississippi.

In Washington, a gang of senators dived back into the race. Just a week after the primary, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell headlined a fundraiser that raised more than $800,000 for Cochran. He told assembled supporters in no uncertain terms: “We are going to win it.”

Check to see how many of those Democrats were eligible to vote. And see how much they were paid.

McDaniel needs to mount a write-in campaign asap.

He can win with a write-in in November as the democrat crossovers won’t be back for Cochran then.

I rather have 49 seats and see this fossil and his enablers lose in November than let this atrocity stand. Those saying all that matters in November is winning majority are horribly short-sighted. Actions like this cannot not be permitted, or we’ll see more of it and worse. The depths the K-street whores will go to protecting their money is much worse than anyone imagined. They spent millions going into black neighborhoods and painting conservatives as racist to keep their guy in the office.

There may never have been a more despicable act than this. The whole of Cochran supporters need to be shunned permanently and forces out...Barbour, Lott, Right to Life, and the rest. This is an atrocity.

“Surprisingly, more votes were cast in the runoff than in the June 3 primary. McDaniel increased his vote from 155,000on June 3 to 184,600 last night. But the 25-35,000 Dems who crossed over to vote for Cochran gave him the extra margin to surpass his opponent.”

Fraud. Many, if not most, of those Rats voted in the democrat primary making them ineligible in the runoff.

They were “paid” by telling them that Cochran wouldn’t take away their goodies, but that “teabagger” would.

Disgusting. Courting Dem’s to vote in GOP primary. And the support from the swamp is equally disgusting. Glad I don’t live in MS. IF I did I would leave that box blank in Nov.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be a God hating leftist, a union thug, or a uber rich bourgeois crony capitalist and have a political party who actually represents you?

I don’t know if McDaniel is the guy to do it, but it’s long past time that somebody played spoiler, and ran as an independent in a situation like this.

This is pure treachery.

The Tea Party MUST mount a write in campaign for McDaniel. It’s a lot easier to spell than Murkowsi. Even if we don’t succeed, we will succeed in getting rid of a traitor in our midst.

Cochran is running as a Democrat. Vote accordingly.

Wouldn’t it be better to just let the dems win the US Senate seat? Keep in mind that McDaniels never had much over 50% of the Republican voters in the primaries. In a three-way, it might give Cocharan an advantage.

Exactly. From what I understand, it was illegal for people who voted in the Dem June 3rd primary to vote in the Republican runoff.

Not that such a minor thing as legality ever stopped the Dems.....or the Pubbies that act like them.
