Yes I do know some, and have known Police Officers. Some are good people some are idiots. Put 100 people in a room from any profession, from doctors, soldiers, fire fighters, accountants. Out of 100 some are idiots, some are awesome, some have been idiots and awesome in the course of a career.
People are people. People are highly flawed. Institutions such as medical boards, The Bar, plumbing licensing boards try to keep things in order.
So recognizing that all people are corrupt, and government is made up of people tells us that powers of people MUST be extremely limited. That is the premise behind The USA Constitution. Limited powers, small government. A good practice indeed. Small government means small Police. That is a Jeffersonian view, and that is my view.
