School Board President Ditches Michelle Obama's Lunch Program: She's Been 'Elected By No One'

Local school districts in Wisconsin are opting out of the onerous school lunch guidelines that have been pushed largely by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her campaign to fight obesity, choosing instead to make their own guidelines about proper food nutrition at the local level.

As the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports, Rick Petfalski, school board president of the Muskego-Norway School District, said, “We believe that proper food nutrition and meal portion guidelines are best decided at a local level.”

Petfalski’s school district’s decision to opt out of the National School Lunch Program means it will no longer receive federal money for its meals, but also that the district is free to serve whatever it wants.

“By leaving the program we will not be required to follow these onerous guidelines, pushed by and large by Michelle Obama, who last I checked has been elected by no one,” Petfalski said.

IMHO all things relating to SCHOOL are best decided at the local level. How many students has Washington graduated? Nothing but a huge money machine and power grab for the UNIONS.

US schools are totally taken over by the left.

Admit it.

We really, really need to be more assertive about education.

Quite a lot, than we are right now.

Let me get this straight, some unappointed or elected nut case proposes regulations for a government program and because individual school boards decide to not abide by the nutcase’s ideas, they are removed from an approved appropriation?

Time for the pitchforks.

What’s a pitchfork?

Is it like a spork at the fast-food?

We’re not supposed to eat there anymore.

I wonder who remembers what a pitchfork is, or who has used one?

“I wonder who remembers what a pitchfork is, or who has used one?”

Still a pretty common tool around here. I change bedding for the dogs and cats all the time with one.

I actually own and use one sometimes in our garden. Used to use it when a kid to turn over soil looking for worms for fishing!

Not only do I own and use a pitchfork, I also am handy with a bush axe, hoe and other wonderful long handle tools from another century.

A friend stuck a pitchfork in the lawn and tweaked the handle. The vibrations brought worms to the surface. Then a quick, short hike down to the Columbia River to use them. Squaw fish, and some smaller specie. His mom liked them planted in the rose garden, and his cats enjoyed them too.

One day, working with my kids in the garden, they expressed amazement at my ‘skill’ with the various tools (hoe, shovel, pitchfork). It was learned through much practice on my Dads apple ranch. I don’t know how much they meant the complement; it may have been schmoozing the old man (they weren’t using the tools).
