Why do we need real reform? That’s all I ever hear and in ALL the stories not one mentions what the current path to citizenship entails. I find that very telling.
And few if any stories on the subject ever talk about how we don’t enforce the laws currently on the books.
It’s currently illegal to sneak into this country as so many illegals do.
It’s currently illegal to overstay a tourist visa, or other type of visa, which is also a key way which illegals use to gain entry.
It’s currently illegal to work in this country without having legal status to be here.
It’s currently illegal to use fraudulent documents to get a job in this country.
It’s currently illegal for employers to hire those who are not in this country legally.
It’s currently illegal to use illegal documents or fraud to get legitimate documents such as a driver’s license.
The above types of criminal activity are simply not being prosecuted in this country. The penalty of deportation is just being used as punishment when we catch people doing things such as the above.
I would love to see us enforce the laws already on the books, and then, seeing the impact, see what remaining problems we have with illegals which would need to be dealt with.
It’s not intellectually honest for liberals and open border types to say “we need to fix our broken immigration system”, when we have a legal system of immmigration in place, and when illegal immigration is, by definition, against the law.
It gets me nuts when I hear politically correct FReepers saying: “I’m all for LEGAL immigration”. Stroke of a pen, legal immigration.
