As state officials across the country grapple with how to prevent mass killings like the ones at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and near the University of California, Santa Barbara, some are turning to a gun seizure law pioneered in Connecticut 15 years ago.

Overreach! How COULD they have known Lanza had access to guns?

Do they now require records of ALL mental patients so they can search the homes of all their relatives, acquaintances? Truly, liberalism is a mental disorder.

“believes the state’s gun seizure law could have prevented the killings of 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012, if police had been made aware that gunman Adam Lanza had mental health problems and access to his mother’s legally owned guns. “

So if there is someone in your home, building, or neighborhood who is deemed to be dangerous by the cops, they come for your guns. Not the kitchen knives, yet.

Or pass a law requiring you to have a Class 5 safe with an alarm system that rings in the Sheriff’s office. For the kids.

Now that the war against gun purchases has been, essentially, won, this is probably the next battleground.

While a bunch of spoiled brats are throwing a temper tantrum over having to pay for their own contraceptives, laws that throw due process out the window are welcomed.

What’s the world coming to when people all but ask to be enslaved?

Look for such laws to land up in the fed courts down the road, and in a special way, all the way to the Supremes, mark my words.

“Michael Lawlor, Connecticut’s undersecretary for criminal justice planning and policy, believes the state’s gun seizure law could have prevented the killings of 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012, if police had been made aware that gunman Adam Lanza had mental health problems and access to his mother’s legally owned guns.”

Except, to my knowledge, the only “mental health problem” Lanza had was Asperger’s, which is not even considered a mental health problem.

Then again, why should gods be subject to facts? (sarc)

Sounds like a law made for abuse. Get into a dispute with a neighbor because his dogs keep running into your yard for instance and he says he is afraid so the police seize your guns.

“You want to make sure that when people are in crisis ... there is a way to prevent them to get access to firearms,” said Josh Horwitz...

I imagine he’d have promoted that idea in the Warsaw ghetto, too. What an ignorant fool.

“...guns temporarily seized...”

Not bloody likely.

This goes way, way beyond mental illness and simply goes more into the “demonic” as in demonic possesion or oppression.

Since most states don’t require long gun registration how would authorities know whether an individual had access to weapons? This looks like a ploy for registration.

This law was on the books in Connecticut, but Sandy Hook happened in that state, anyway.

Replicating it across the country would make it no more effective.

Does being in the Tea Party count as mentally ill? In the Soviet Union, being against Socialism was considered a mental illness (after all, what could be more perfect), and people (very often) were “treated” at mental hospitals.

We are one geezer’s heartbeat away from a liberal majority SCOTUS. Things will forever change if Barry gets another appointment opportunity.

Too bad people didn’t think that was important in November 2012 huh? I thought it was, and said so on these very pages, but the Republican Nominee was just like Obama, or so I’ve read somewhere.

Doesn’t matter anyway. The Die is Cast.
