The feds are pre-positioning equipment so we can fight the extraterrestrials when they come through the worm hole behind the moon.

That’s right, and I’m suggesting we start to think about how we can be openers.

On the rear axle of that vehicle there is an object about the size of a coffe can. Put a hole or two in that and the brakes lock up. Then toss a gallon or two of household ammonia on the air intakes.

One very large, very expensive can opened.

Are things that dangerous. From Car 54 to the super police tanker. :) Wouldn’t that be frightful to see coming down your street. A person may think we are under siege or something. I can see them policing the parking lot mall with that monster;)

Yep, a couple .50 cal rounds to the tires and it’s useless.

Wish I had this to counter them:

Davidson Cadillac armored car, 1915. It had it's own generator to cook food and to run radios. It was armed with an M1895 Colt-Browning machine gun and had a top speed of 70 MPH.

As tools for “law enforcement”, these vehicles are highly dependent upon the intimidation factor. If the police are facing a group of people who have their wits about them, the cops could quickly find themselves in trouble.

Is that the kind of vehicle McArthur used to attack impoverished WWI vets?

I don’t think so, I think they were out of service by then.

Every surplus weapon and armed vehicle outside of a duce and half truck should be given to the local Army NG Armory, or a Branch reserve unit. A duce and half would serve local civil defense a useful purpose in hauling needed supplies etc in disasters. I can see that exception but not much more.

Civilian Law Enforcement does not need to be militarized or RAMBO wannabees. Their camouflage uniforms need to go, so does the alphabet Tee shirts. Put all LEO back in standard traditional patrol uniforms when dealing with the public in any official capacity except when on plain clothes undercover assignments. SWAT Teams should be a last resort choice not a routine means to lower risk. No Knock Raids should not be permitted except in a known hostage situation.

Do away with the property confiscation & forfeiture laws except in the case of where the money is used solely to compensate the actual victims of the crime the criminal committed and harmed. These laws have become corrupted and are being used as means to fund police departments and government coffers.

I wonder how long those tires would burn if one were to apply a sufficiently sticky accelerant to them. Like gasoline mixed with styrofoam or palm oil.

I do agree with your points. BTW, I think a better place for these armored vehicles, be they the ones we use now or the 1915 one I posted is on our southern border.

Very limited use, but when you need a bullet proof vehicle it is nice to have one. The locals in my area have an old Air Force security vehicle that looks like a mini BTR-60. They use it when they have barricaded suspect with an open field of fire. They have only used it three times in the last six years I have been in the area. They don't use it for every warrant they serve.

If there is a VERY occasional justification for it (and once every two years is very occasional), then it would make more sense to leave it with the National Guard, with a provision that a local PD can borrow it with permission from the governor's office.

Having to ask the governor's office each time would likely greatly reduce the inclination to use it for routine warrant service.

Border Patrol is the only non military agency I can see having legitimate need and use of such equipment as they are protecting the border. Then again perhaps we need a true full time militarized force operating under the Pentagon Border Guard to patrol and secure areas outside of legal legitimate port of entry. Place them under control of the Pentagon and under the UCMJ. Fund it and make it a permanent full time organized operation.
