If a gun is not an object, then if set on a table and left to it’s own devices, the gun should leap up unassisted to perpetrate evil, right?
Shoot to stop. That may be achieved by killing, but the goal is to stop an attack. When the threat ceases, you cease shooting.
The problem with “shoot to kill” is that becomes your goal ... and if the attack stops and the threat ends but the assailant is still alive, your preset auto-pilot goal will be to continue until he’s dead - and that’s murder.

Astoundingly, the entire quote from which you lifted only one line even more clearly shows this insane, quasi-religious attitude, FTA:

Indeed, that's why this article doesn't deserve a barf alert, because it so clearly discloses the fundamental, insane premise that drives many gun grabbers.

Two points-
1- Gun violence (excluding suicide) is largely a minority problem. The statistics are clear that the vast majority (~ 90%) of killings in large cities are by blacks or hispanics.
2- Given the nature, attitudes, and actions of the current govt, gun ownership by citizens to preserve their liberty has NEVER been more necessary except during the 1700s. People recognize that and have been acting accordingly.
Right. Just like barbed wire has one purpose: to corral Jews in extermination camps. It is no more neutral than poison.

20 years ago I used a gun for convincing some young drug dealers that they should not sell their wares to subteens on the churchyard at night. Calling the police would have availed nothing. Sweet reason ditto. A revolver pointed at the head of the fellow in the car selling the crack with an explanation that I would not call the cops if I saw him there again was convincing.
With this rationale, all nuclear devices should be detonated.
Guns have many purposes. Deterrence is the main purpose.
Mitigating possible retribution via murder is not legal. Coup de grace shots have no place in mundane self defense.
The right to a gun is the right to lethal force. Anyone wanting to take that away from you is someone who wants to use it against you. Period.
