SoCal Churches Offer Temporary Shelter, "Spiritual Food" for Immigrants
NBC Los Angeles ^ | July 10, 2014 | Jonathan Lloyd and John Cádiz Klemac

Posted on 07/10/2014 1:53:58 PM PDT by don-o

An estimated 50 immigrants carrying temporary visas arrived Thursday aboard Homeland Security buses at two churches in San Bernardino County that are working with federal agencies to help the families through the immigration process.

Officials with the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino told NBC4 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials reached out to them in an effort to address the border crisis stemming from a wave of undocumented immigrants from Central America who have recently crossed into the United States at the Texas-Mexico border. President Barack Obama has described the situation as a "humanitarian crisis."

"As a church, we want to let them know that there are people here in the United States who love and support them, they're praying with them and for them," said John Andrews, of the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino County. "Maybe that can give them some of that spiritual food for the next leg of their journey."

A white bus marked "Homeland Security" arrived at a Fontana church early Thursday as volunteers unloaded food and other supplies from other vehicles. Volunteers are expected to transport some of the passengers to Rialto, about five miles east of Fontana.

All of the arrivals are mothers with young children, who are carrying paperwork from ICE that will allow them to remain in the United States as they wait for immigration hearings, Diocese officials said. The families will likely remain at the churches, equipped with air mattresses, for about 24 hours, according to the Diocese.

Nearly all of the passengers are expected to be transported to the Midwest, authorities said.

Why are we transporting them to the midwest? Shouldn’t they be sent back south of the border eventually? Why would we send them to the midwest at all?????

If they were Canadians I doubt they would be shipping them to Texas and Arizona for processing.

We are required by Christ to love our neighbor, this also means that our neighbor is required to love us.

Theft of our hard earned resources is hardly love, but a violation of God’s commandments. Legal immigration is loving, setting up children and women to become sex slaves or government slaves is anything but.

I doubt very much that those at NBC have any idea what the true “spiritual food” of the catholic church is.

How was it that the State Department with many diplomats stationed throughout Central America was not aware of this “migration” of unaccompanied children to the US? This migration took planning and coordination. It would seem that not only did the Obama administration know it was abot to occur, but they did absolutely nothing in the Departments of Homeland Security, Immigration, and border patrol to coordinate a response. Obama is simply implementing his extra legal immigration policy.

Glad you can laugh... It makes me weep.

An elected United States Congressmen is blackmailing the American people into giving up their hard earned resources to a tyrannical president, by threatening to let terrorists blow them up. Why isn’t this man being arrested?

God help us... quickly.

We are required by Christ to love our neighbor, this also means that our neighbor is required to love us.

That is a strange definition of love and does not really line up with Scripture. I do not find where I get to ask "What's in it for me?"

The Church must be true and faithful to her calling. I condemn the politicians for their shamelessness and hubris.

Think of it not so much as what is in it for me, as much as the requirement to love one’s neighbor is for all of humanity...not just those of us who are U.S. citizens.

Does the requirement to love one’s neighbor not extend to the immigrants as well? Should they be allowed to break God’s commandments while we are held fast? Is it not theft to demand health care and education that we pay for?

I see the libs on that news thread are trying to hold Christians accountable for being “charitable to the poor” and “love thy neighbor”.

I can see them trying to ripe the churches apart because of this. One lib wondered if the Tea Party ( tea baggers as the flea bag called it) will start picketing churches.

That is an excellent point. The policy is actually leading these people into sin, which, for a Christian, is the very worst thing.
