The Crisis on the Border
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 10, 2014 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 07/11/2014 6:02:23 AM PDT by C19fan

What is happening at the southern border is a true and actual crisis. News accounts justly use words like chaos, collapse and breakdown. They feature images of children—toddlers, 4- and 5-year-olds—being shuffled to warehouse holding centers, sleeping crowded at night on what look like pallets, covered only in Mylar blankets. "I never thought we'd have refugee camps in America," said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, "but that's what it's appearing."

All this gives normal people a feeling of besiegement and foreboding. Is a nation without borders a nation? Washington's leaders seem to recognize what's happening as a political problem, not a real problem. That is, they betray no honest alarm. They just sort of stand in clusters and say things.

The Wall Street Journal's cheering for de facto or de jure open borders is just as responsible for what is going on as Obama. Now Peggy Noonan is complaining about the consequences of policies her employer advocates???

Is a nation without borders a nation?

The very paper Noonan wrote in has been a very vocal advocate of a nation without bodrers. Doctor heal thy self

Do you remember in 1979, every night on the news “America Held Hostage” day xxx, on ABC news? At that time ABC news was still a legitimate and patriotic network.

Why doesn’t Fox News run with “Humanitarian Crisis in America” logo and sound, day xxx, day one being the day Obummer shot pool in Denver, in a similar fashion?

Where is the media outrage?

What is going on has tremendous inertia. It is like the Titanic headed toward an iceberg. If you put on the brakes today (very unlikely), it would take 6 months-couple of years to stop what is going on.

The president thinks this is funny, and is employing guard dogs around his fence at the white house.

Peggy Noonan has created an analogy here that is as good as I have heard recently;

“America is the house that is both falling apart and under new stress. Those living within it, those most upset by what they're seeing, know America has big problems—unemployment, low workforce participation, a rickety physical infrastructure, an unsound culture, poor public education. And of course discord of all sorts—a lot of mad squirrels running around the attic. “

Good enough for my Grand dad, good enought for the this rabble: first thing quarantine them and check for disease and criminal behavior or “moral deviance”. Find a sponsor who will ensure they do not become a burden to society and who will provide for their well being or assist with same if they can find a job. Release them as lawful immigrants with the previso they will not be on public assistance or welfare of any kind. Make them register every year as to where they are and send them an update card to that affect. If they don’t register or if they lie, send out a deportation official, lock em up, process them quickly and send them off to their native land PRONTO. Any costs for any of this go to their sponsor or sponsoring organization. Gone in 60 days start to finish at little cost to the tax payers.

As far as temporary holding goes, I recall doing my basic in 68 in barracks that had been condemned in 45. I am sure there are such facilities about now, perhaps not condemned in 45 but perhaps in the 70s. Good enough for me, good enough for them.

Me being a curmudgeon thinks it is too late and we are hitting the iceberg. My only hope is what Adam Smite wrote about there is a lot of ruin in a nation and we as a nation can muddle through for say another 50 years.

Ironic isn’t it......All those people previoisly calling for some type of amnesty.......Wall Street Journal.....O’Reilly......Brit Hume, etc.....are ‘surprised’ it has come to this.......with O’Reilly saying he could never call for amnesty now.
Obama messed up their carefully orchestrated game......I think they are now seriously scared they will be caught up in the payback.....cause Obama, their man, is way off the reservation.

What the frig did they think would happen!.....You put chum in the water, you get sharks.
All these illegal lovers are getting more than they bargained for.....and sadly, those of us against it, are getting the same.

Hypocrite Pelosi said she wished she could take all those children home with her.......Nancy, there’s not a thing stopping you except your lying tongue.

Noonan made my head explode writing that piece in of all places the WSJ. I am surprised the editors even published it.

I agree with the premise of this article found in the last two paragraphs:

“There is every sign he let the crisis on the border build to put heat on Republicans and make them pass his idea of good immigration reform. It would be “comprehensive,” meaning huge, impenetrable and probably full of mischief. His base wants it. It would no doubt benefit the Democratic Party in the long term.

The little children in great danger, holding hands, staring blankly ahead, are pawns in a larger game. That game is run by adults. How cold do you have to be to use children in this way?”

Anyone watching the Imposter in Chief’s news conference in Dallas the other day would have seen something clear. This man has a sinister undercovering, thinly cloaked. He cares not a hoot about the immigrants flowing over the border any more than his party cares for the poor and the homeless or for any minority for that matter.

He looked into the cameras, spoke cooly making it clear that this is purely a political game for him. He’s playing his next chess move, and awaits the republican response.

I pray that our side, (yes it’s become a game of our side and their side, first time I’ve ever felt this way about a presidency in my lifetime,) does not fall for this trap. This is his doing, so let him mire in it.

The whole picture disgusts me...

...Obama said he would consider the National Guard, but it would only be a temporary solution....( I know...just words....he will never do it)

The quote I heard in response......Putting a tourniquet on a bleeder is only a temporary solution...( until you can get better help) ,....but hey, it stops the bleeding and gives time for help to come.

Anyone who is not 100% Deportation supports what is going on at the border.

The WSJ has always supported Illegal Alien Amnesty...always. And Peggy Noonan

Great post....

Yes, the GOP who support Amnesty are now in a rough position. Support Amnesty...and you in effect support current invasion

This has all been planned.
We are overwhelmed and they’re still coming
I’m wondering if Rick Perry is in cahoots with Obama since he’s not doing anything. He’s looking scared, nervous, and confused.

I think I’m going to get my tin foil hat on because this sounds like what’s coming

Like I said.....Obama messed up their game......He kicked over the board and stole all their marbles....he doesn’t play nice, or by the their rules, and somehow they’re just discovering this and NOW they’re mad.

Perhaps they now see him as the untethered maniac he is!

Boo Fracking Hoo.....Welcome to the new normal, you enablers!

If we have no border then we have no country. And if we have no country then we don't need a president.

What I wrote was how the “system” worked in 1900. Whether that was amnesty is up for debate but the point is few got in here who were going to be on the dole and not a contributor to society.

I agree with anyone with the principle if we had the military on the border and shot anyone coming over illegally there would be zero immigration problems. The reality is that is not going to happen as much as I’d like to see it. I have not seen much immigration between north and south korea and know the military system seems to work well when employed.

Noonan has turned to the dark side. this piece of tripe is designed to gain sympathy, nothing else.

They are not just carrying childhood diseases, TB, MERS, MERSA, Ebola, Leprosy.

Do you want this coming into your community, because NO DOCTOR OR BORDER AGENT has donned a Medical Bio Hazard Suit or been Decontaminated after exposure to these highly contagious kids who INVADED our country?

This is Scabies

Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it. Remember Typhoid Mary any one?
