Isn’t It Rich?
New York Times ^ | July 12, 2014 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 07/12/2014 9:01:55 PM PDT by Second Amendment First

CHELSEA CLINTON never acted out during the eight years she came of age as America’s first daughter.

No ditching of her Secret Service detail. No fake IDs for underage tippling. No drug scandal. No court appearance in tank top and toe ring. Not even any dirty dancing.

Despite a tough role as the go-between in the highly public and embarrassing marital contretemps of her parents, Chelsea stayed classy.

So it’s strange to see her acting out in a sense now, joining her parents in cashing in to help feed the rapacious, gaping maw of Clinton Inc.

With her 1 percenter mother under fire for disingenuously calling herself “dead broke” when she left the White House, why would Chelsea want to open herself up to criticism that she is gobbling whopping paychecks not commensurate with her skills, experience or role in life?

As the 34-year-old tries to wean some of the cronies from the Clinton Foundation — which is, like the Clintons themselves, well-intended, wasteful and disorganized — Chelsea is making speeches that go into foundation coffers. She is commanding, as The Times’s Amy Chozick reported, up to $75,000 per appearance.

*

There’s something unseemly about it, making one wonder: Why on earth is she worth that much money? Why, given her dabbling in management consulting, hedge-funding and coattail-riding, is an hour of her time valued at an amount that most Americans her age don’t make in a year?

If she really wants to be altruistic, let her contribute the money to some independent charity not designed to burnish the Clinton name as her mother ramps up to return to the White House and as she herself drops a handkerchief about getting into politics.

Why is she using the Clinton name? Her married name too closely connected to crooks? Well actually both names are, but only one has celebrity value.

One can be making money but doing it in an unseemly fashion.

Should their behavior be rewarded by electing Madame to the most powerful position in the word? I think not..

Let's not let Maureen overlook the fact that Chelsea's chances of a date were on a par with Halley's Comet making a U-Turn.

I also am free to question their sanity and/or motivations.

...has anyone indicated that you are not free to do so...?

1) Those willing to pay this price to this airhead are paying for political access... crony capitalism

...well, since that’s been happening since the first alpha male caveman started accepting bribes of extra tail, it apparently is something we cannot do without...

Many colleges and universities are paying this price... with your money

...not if I don’t choose to endow them...tax revenues extorted from me to pay collegiate expenses don’t go too far...

The donkey-faced skank gave that up the first time it opened its mouth on political matters;

...if the kearny in your ID refers to the town in Jersey, then I salute you as one who also grew up in the wonderful Garden State...however, I don’t salute the bitterness evident in your above post...donkey-faced skank...it...?

Considering you don’t personally know her, would not more measured rhetoric suffice...?

OMG!

I stand corrected. Thought I had seen it all but now I really see it all.

“Considering you don’t personally know her, would not more measured rhetoric suffice...?”

I was very clear that Chelsea entered the arena with political commentary; do you reprimand those who don’t personally know Obama and call him much worse?

I have no bitterness towards Chelsea; I’m proud that my parents have never caused me such humiliation. Imagine how often Chelsea has to explain Monica to friends...

...interesting that you bring that up...I would question, and have done so, why such commentary is necessary to express political differences...is it not sufficient that I do not vote for the guy, must I also toe some mandated slander line...?

I have no bitterness towards Chelsea

...well, ok...

I find it hard to pretend that abortion supporters/facilitators are human; my apologies for offending your sensitivities. They merit no respect whatsoever.

No; I am merely pre-empting any such assertion.

I find it amusing her father-in-law is a convicted felon and her husband is very rich. With the Clintons, it is always about money.

Hillary says she doesn’t draw a salary from the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. I bet she gets a nice expense check, though.

Family of phonies.

Nobody, except the most partisan Hillary lover, would buy that: “the money goes to our family charity” line.

And why isn’t she getting a salary? War on Women?

No wonder the poor dear is dead broke, mean old bill taking all her pay from her! She must need her consciousness raised.
