Would You Believe, Another Crashed Hard Drive?

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Monday made yet another request to the federal government for details about a crashed hard drive that may have contained information allowing criminal charges to be brought against a federal official.

Issa’s newest letter concerns the hard drive of April Sands, a former employee at the Federal Election Commission who resigned in the spring after admitting to violations of the Hatch Act. That law puts restrictions on the ability of government officials to conduct political activities while on the job, or from government offices.

Looks like the old "hard drive crashed" is the liars line of choice theses days........actually that will most likely be the excuse line for the rest of this administrations term.........I miss the days when "the Dog ate it".

Do you have to pay Western Digital or Seagate extra for a drive that knows when it has information on it incriminating to a National Socialist, and automagically knows to delete it?

Interesting the “my hard drive crashed” excuse was never used by the Bush administration during its last two years when Pelosi ran the House.

I’ve been playing with and abusing the hell out of computers since the early 80s and must have owned 100s of them. Not ONCE have I EVER had a hard drive crash to the point where I couldn’t retrieve information from it. Matter of fact, I think I even remember once taking a hard drive and putting it near a 15 inch magnet to see if it would erase it and still I got info off it. But in this day and age, the IRS which goes through BILLIONS of dollars, the IRS that pays out millions in bonuses, *suddenly* has this “accidental” HD crash to the point where all the info is wiped? This is equal to saying “I cannot present the emails to you because the earth has exploded and we are all dead”. This is beyond lying, it’s basically saying “F you” to the public.

I would simply hold anyone stating that in CONTEMPT Of Congress, once they made that statement. I would treat that answer as a “hell no, we’re not giving you a damn thing”, and JAIL THEM.

...because that is what’s going on.

Interesting figures……….

The odds of winning the Florida lottery are 1 in 22,957,480

The odds of winning the Powerball is 1 in 175,223,510.

The odds of winning Mega Millions is 1 in 258,890,850.

The odds of a disk drive failing in any given month are roughly one in 36.

The odds of two different drives failing in the same month are roughly one in 36 squared, or 1 in about 1,300.

The odds of three drives failing in the same month is 36 cubed or 1 in 46,656.

The odds of seven different drives failing in the same month (like what happened at the IRS when they received a letter asking about emails targeting conservative and pro-Israeli groups) is 37 to the 7th power = 1 in 78,664,164,096. (that’s over 78 Billion)

In other words, the odds are greater that you will win the Florida Lottery 342 times than having those seven IRS hard drives crashing in the same month.

Some may find the above to be humorous, or snicker at it being something of a made up joke. IT’S NEITHER! But we can all question the accuracy of the above figures, right?

Let’s look at this another way; based upon industry statistics compared to the reported incidents within the IRS. Scientifically, based upon the officially reported number of hard drive crashes within the IRS…..odds are about 1 in 6 Billion. That’s 1/6,000,000,000. Do we the people deserve to know the truth about this (another so called phony) scandal within our government?

I believe I will use the line to the IRS “ my hard drive crashed with all my financial documentation and my backup failed too.” See the IRS can do it so why not the general public.
