I don’t recall Israel ever doing this in 1948 or 1967.

Heck, I don’t recall the USA doing this in the war to defeat Imperial Japan or Germany.

As a former attack piloy in Vietnam, I think this idea sucks. It’s akin to a LEO firing “warning shots,” which is never done. But the Israelis are bending over backward to avoid international criticism from Lefties. Waste of time and energy.
