so what. I know that is cold, but so what.
Illegal aliens have been dying in the desert for years while breaking the law. What is new and different?

“Liberal Fascists!” The end justifies the means, and the rule of law be damned. I’m with Palin, and I trust no one who is not on the same page.

Not sure why they try it in the summer. Not much water in that part of the state except windmills and stock ponds once you get past the river.

Years ago, my friend who was a Riverside CA policeman called me up and told me that he was at the scene of a body found in an orange grove. That's where illegal aliens (who were often the orchard pickers themselves) made little camps in those days. It's not unusual, he says. Either they die from disease or malnutrition, or they get into a dispute and immigrants are *always* stabbing and robbing each other. *Always* with the stabbing, no matter what. A knife always makes it's appearance with illegal aliens. This particular illegal alien probably just got the flu and laid down and died under an orange tree.
My pal had been out there for hours and was bored to tears, so he called me up to come on out. Bring something for me to eat, he asks.
After I got there, my pal had just recounted the story that the body had been there so long that it had fallen apart and the coroner's assistants were taking out the remains out hunk by hunk with a shovel. No way to do it easily with a gurney through the dense orange groves. Some of it's missing; animals probably. My pal showed me a plastic bag laying on the hoof of his patrol cruiser containing all kinds of muddy paperwork and a few personal items found near the body: A letter in Spanish with a US return address and US postage stamp on it, a bunch of official-looking documents from El Salvador, some pictures, and some religious items. They stunk like death through the bag. Lots of cops carry hand sanitizer and latex gloves in their trunk.
Just as he'd finished the story, a young deputy coroner came stumbling out of the groves with the head in a sack holding it at arm's-length like a bowling ball bag. He tripped climbing up the irrigation canal and went sprawling forward atop the bag.
I'm horrified, but my pal just looks at me with a grin saying "I could never do that job."
This scene was within just a mile or two of a pretty nice upscale residential area a shopping mall and Outback Steakhouse and supermarkets and stuff.

Brooks is not even on the border. To get to Brooks County from the border you would have had to walk across Hidalgo or Starr or both Zapata and Jim Hogg Counties, some 20 or more miles from the Rio Grande.
