Flightaware data shows it was at 33,000, normal cruise/speed, then nothing showing decent.

First thing that popped into my mind also. One of the original news breaks identified it as “ a hand held missile”. I know some of Freepers are very familiar with this technology, is it possible to bring down an airliner with a hand held? Or does it require a much more sophisticated system?

Nothing the Russkies or Ukies don’t have in abundance. 40 years ago Russian SAMs were taking BUFFs down in numbers during Nixon’s bombing campaign that brought Hanoi back to the table. I’d think even the Russians have improved the product in 40 years.
