Perception when it comes to Egypt. Remember all those people in Tahrir Square chanting “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions”? They were not all Muslim Brotherhood and/or Salafists by far.
True that most Egyptians are very anti-Israel, but the new leadership is also anti-Hamas. Several nations don’t want the generic Arabs back (Palestinians, as regurgitated Rome, taking it from Hadrian, continues to designate them). Maybe Lawrence of Arabia should take them all in, given Lawrence’s fetish for them. ...or maybe Lawrence’s preferred friends in extreme southern Europe (see PIIGS, all).
But Iran and Syria were building nukes, and they don’t get along with Israel for any occasion. Iran continues to try to build and mount nukes. Way too many nuclear facilities there. And the various commie nations are helping Iran to do so. Iran, Syria and Russia are now busy with ISIS, which well trained faction runs amock in efforts to stop Iran’s long term bid to take over and rule the Saudis with an iron fist.
That’s cool. For now, chaos is better than the alternative of the new, insane political/regulator/trade folks of the world running interference for Iran and North Korea to fire the first rounds of a near-future nukefest.
Instead, the most influential folks should be occupied with wringing their hands about the chaos, until they more fully freak out about oil supplies, the cold fluctuations to come, the magnetic pole flip, losing control that they never really had and so on. That way, we peasants will have more hysterical TV shows about the end of the world to laugh at.
Really, most diplomats should return home to make milkshakes and iron shirts. They’re not all that and cannot save the world from ever seeing another high-intensity conflict. Like the debt problem, the sooner conflicts are settled more decisively, the better.
