My less than kind reference to the typical Rhode Islander was remembering Claiborne Pell. But I just went to his Wiki bio; eccentric chap but not a bad sort, served in WWII & the USNR, four children, & his widow died only this past April.
But it is true, is it not, that Rhode Island is historically governed by a ruling class of but a few families dating to the time of Roger Williams? Sen. Pell’s bloodlines & those of his wife were of the bluest.
The current governor is an atheistic creep. It was his father who every year introduced a bill calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment (good luck!) and waved his military medals at anyone who disagreed.
Got enough entitled `first families’ right here in South Carolina. Thank goodness they are mostly concentrated in Charleston, a city emotionally closer to New England than the rest of the South.
At one time Boston and Charleston were “sister cities” (prior to the Civil War), there are lots of similarities. Dorchester Co. in SC was named for Dorchester, a section of Boston.
Lincoln Chafee is a loon.
