Actually, that amount was a combined total for the two large tobacco companies. R. J. Reynolds alone has a net worth $5.3 billion. So the jury awarded the plaintiff 4x what the company is worth.
Altria (formerly Philip Morris) - $84 billion
Lorillard - $22 billion
Reynolds - $31 billion
