Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he has stopped talking to US President Barack Obama on the phone, amid growing strains between Ankara and Washington over Syria and the Gaza conflict.

Turkey, a fierce opponent of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and an open supporter of armed rebel fighters, felt betrayed when the United States backed away from military action against Damascus in September.

"In the past, I was calling him (Obama) directly. Because I can't get the expected results on Syria, our foreign ministers are now talking to each other," Erdogan said in a live interview on pro-government ATV channel late Monday.

"And I have talked to (US Vice President Joe) Biden. He calls me and I call him.

Another Obama foreign policy success. If the US survives the Obama Regime, I wonder how many decades it will take to repair the damage...if the damage can be repaired at all

Oh...poop. Maybe obama should try sending a few hundred gay ambassadors and “staff” to woo the Turks?

Again-America can survive Obama, it cannot survive the people who voted for Obama.

In the old days, the U.S. might have “removed” Erdogan. Today we don’t do such things, but we should remove them from NATO.

It seems it won’t take long at all, since Erdogan says he is still talking to Biden.

another re-set

we are going back to the Cold War

but this time, without any allies or at least, any allies who can actually do anything to support us- much less anyone of geopolitical significnace who even respects us

Not that what we do is worthy of support or respect anymore

Given the state of the world and the nature of many of its leaders and emergent ideologies- I cannot think of a more perilous time for the US given our shockingly aloof, groveling and weak foreign policy

why should “we” remove them from NATO?
Because their leader doesn’t respect obama?

Erdogan has the same lack of respect for obama as does probably half of America and the world

Turkey like all nations has no permanent friends or enemies, just permanent interests - and obama’s “policies” don’t meet those interests.

and traditional diplomacy to smooth the gap?
Out the window with 6 years of incompetence at the US State Department.

I will say that it is absolutely NOT in the interests of this country for Assad of Syria to be overthrown by the Islamic-led rebels. They are ISIS.

We should be fighting them.

Why is Erdogan supporting ISIS, should be the question. How is THAT in Turkey’s national interest? Unless the Turks are looking at regaining their Ottoman Empire with a new name...

“Beware the cruel Turk!” was a slogan in the Middle Ages for a good reason.

You don’t talk to Obama, you talk at him. He wouldn’t listen to anyone who disagrees with him anyways

Yup ... there’s a permanent and growing class of people who cannot, and who never will support themselves.

They will be outright rebellious when/IF their free stuff is withheld.

I am glad that I am old enough, that I will be dead when that happens.

The Turks have had long historic disputes with Syria and Assad .... the opposition to Assad is not all ISIS and in fact recently devolved to ISIS - ISIS is I believe the outcome of a lack of a coherent rational US/Western policy toward Syria and the vacuum that Obama’s policy created in Iraq. ISIS is neither a Turkish creation nor a Turkish ally nor does a radical theocratic Iraq serve Turkish interests in the long term

I believe Turkey is less “pro-ISIS” than anti-Syria (with Assad’s ties to shia Iran and Russia) and pro-Saudi Arabia

In fact, ISIS with its former Saddam regime Baathist leaders no doubt has revenge plans in store for Turkey as the region’s closest member of NATO/West, and they wont ever forget Turkey’s role in the US-led Coalition in 2 wars against Saddam

Turkey is triangulating its interests against those of Assad and his Iran/Shia (and Russian) allies, and given the lack of a viable US leadership they can trust and work with, probably sees working with Saudi Arabia as the best counter to Iran’s working with Syria, and Syria working with PKK terrorist against Turkey

Turkey is most immediately concerned about what is on its own border- Syria and the Kurds - than the central and southern parts of Iraq- and also the Black Sea and Russia

There is no area of domestic or foreign policy that is better now than it was before Barack Hussein Obama II took office.
