Eisenhower is an underrated president. He was quietly competent and highly skeptical of statism.

Agreed. My ranting over the years rubbed off on my Daughter during her High School days, when they all get the dreaded project on writing a critical essay on who was the best president. She asked me what I would do. I told her to run with President Eisenhower and the interstate highway system.
Her teacher pulled her aside and told her she had never recognized how great the General was. She got an A+ on the assignment. Honors course on top of it.
The left liked to portray Eisenhower as "stupid" even then. Let us compare two presidents. Eisenhower and his continuing accomplishments or Johnson and the war on poverty. Who succeeded in elevating the US as a great nation? Who succeeded in tearing down the great successes of humanity?
