I will give the man, credit, however, for making the conversation about his sex life, rather than about his skillset.
IMO, it's a smart move, since his skillset isn't professional caliber. He can either bludgeon a pro team into keeping him around, or if they don't, then it's because they're a bunch of bigots and he can twist that into a lawsuit or a moneymaking job as "The First Gay Football commentator", or somesuch.
He's taken a near certain failure and turned it into a win-win situation. Well played.
The worst thing that could happen to Sams, a defensive lineman/defensive end, at this point is that they let him play, and he gets kicked all around the field proving his low ability to be true.
The message then will be: “He really couldn’t play.”
He should pray for a career-ending injury in training camp.
You apparently did not get ... or ignored the memo. The NFL is no longer about football. It is about being an instrument of social change. In fact, I think that the new, non-violent NFL should adopt the girl's soccer rule of not keeping score.
Bill, no doubt you are gender normative, hegemonic, patriarchal, eurocentric, imperialistic, colonial, capitalist, and probably an evangelical fanatic. Sam is just trying to get along and get in the broadcast booth by using the back door.
He should broadcast. He couldn't possibly be worse at it than Olberman, who is queer and who cannot play or talk football, either.
