Tony Dungy is being proven right, and his critics in the media are helping him do it.
Dungy, a well-respected coach and revered figure in the NFL community, currently finds himself at the bottom of a media dogpile because he said he would not draft St. Louis Rams rookie linebacker Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay NFL player earlier this year.
“I wouldn’t have taken him,” Dungy told the Tampa Tribune in an article published this week. (Reporter Ira Kaufman later revealed that the quotation is from a separate interview he conducted with Dungy in February.) “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”
“It’s not going to be totally smooth . . . things will happen.”
But if Dungy was hoping to avoid starting a narcissistic media kerfuffle, he ended up doing exactly that — starting one.
Now, the Super Bowl–winning coach of the Indianapolis Colts has become the goat of sports media. One after another, commentators have lined up to label Dungy “anti-gay” and “homophobic.” Keith Olbermann gave Dungy his “Worst Person in the Sports World” recognition, while Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports wrote that the remarks were “some kind of Jim Crow–era awful.” One doesn’t have to go more than a few paragraphs before a columnist points to Dungy’s Christian faith as the reason; the real gumshoes cite the Indiana Family Institute’s Friend of Family Award he won in 2007 when the state passed a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Dungy’s right. Sam would be lucky to make the practice squad, sexual politics aside. If he was better, he wouldn’t be a seventh rounder.

It sounds as though the RACIST, “openly gay” homosexual, TV sports talking bobbleheads have a problem with an African American sports legend. LOL!
He was a man of honor as the Buccaneers coach, and again as the Colts coach, and again when he gave up coaching for ministry. Matthew 5:11-12 applies here.
Tony didn’t get the memo that you’re supposed to lie if your opinion isn’t politically correct.

Now, thanks to the Gaystapo’s hissy-fit, football fans will be sick of this over-the-top promo of Sam and persecution of Dungy...very damaging to Sam’s prospects in the NFL.

What’s the problem? All Dungy said is that he wouldn’t Draft Sam because of the media distraction and circus.
And he was right!
But also Sam made it tougher to draft him, because of the circus teams had to know would surround him.....Not worth it for such a marginal player.
Which leads me to the conclusion that the NFL made an offer to the Rams that they couldn’t refuse.
All the far left idiots that are sportscasters and sports reporters are so stupid they are going to kill their own jobs. The NFL and other sports are going to eventually go away at this rate.
The media’s panties are in a twist because they cannot figure out if black/black (Dungy) trumps gay/black (Sams). If Dungy were a liberal and Sams were conservative they would be triply/quadruply confused.
Correct. He’s a third rate player at best and if he doesn’t start it’s because everyone else is homophobic.
He gets a nasty hit and it’s because the tackle is a gay hater.
If he gets cut or traded it’s because the NFL is gay averse.
Etc, etc. The sports “media” (farther to the left than political reporters believe it or not) will constantly drum up the “anti-gay” rhetoric.

A good, decent Christian BLACK man and that will be the trigger. Enough black players are uncomfortable with this and now the gauntlet has been thrown.
As soon as they go against the liberal line they cease to be black and it is open season.
He didn’t even say anything un-PC, he just pointed out reality.
Dungy is totally right - I support him completely.
In 10 years no one will know who a single one of these sportscasters is/was. Sam will be a footnote. Dungy will STILL be a sports legend. History has a way of taking care of the silliness.
