HOUSTON When Gov. Rick Perry of Texas announced plans to deploy 1,000 National Guard troops to help with the border crisis, it came with a power unexpected by some. By deploying them himself rather than through Washington, he has the power to order the troops to make arrests and apprehensions, something Guard troops in past border deployments have been prohibited from doing.
Immigrant rights advocates and others, including former federal officials involved in previous National Guard mobilizations, said the troops would lack both training and federal oversight, creating a risk of civil rights violations and deadly encounters with immigrants.

Critics worry that the Guard will be ill trained to deal with immigrant population? What kind of training would the Feds give them?
“Ok, Guardsman, here’s your training. When you see an illegal come across the border you are to give them a blanket, food, water and this map to Brownsville. Alternatively, you could give them a map which leads to San Antonio.”
Any citizen can do a citizens arrest for a felony. What citizens cannot do is arrest or detain for misdemeanors, nor serve traffic tickets or warrants.
When I read the ROEs from the TX ARNGs provost marshal and JAG, THEN we will know if TX is serious.
The situation needs to be altered. The people trying to come across the borders illegally should have shots fired over their heads. They will then train themselves.
What kind of training would the Feds give them?
The Feds will not let this happen without formal training because they might start apprehending members of the officially sanctioned cartel smuggling operation. Without training they very well might arrest the wrong drug smugglers, thereby directly affecting the Governments Bottom Line, and The War on Drugs in a negative way for Government at all Levels.
Got it?
Give them a one way ticket to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. People with active diseases, lice and bedbugs get priority. When the bus is full, Vaya con Dios amigo!
Copyright restrictions apply down thread as well. Thank you.
I think a citizen’s arrest of a federal agent for “dereliction of duty” would be a good start.
Texas should secede from the Union, with all the Mexicans that are living there they could name their country Texaco. AH yes I could hear the battle song now: “We are the men of Texaco, we came from the USA and Mexico, there is nothing like this country of our’s.................... Ya gotta be old to catch on to that one.
I'm not worried about "potentially fatal encounters with illegals"...I'm thinking more along the lines of a bad precedent being set. Namely, the same argument for deploying troops along the border of TX can (and would, do you trust Gov. 'Moonbeam' Brown?) be used by other state governors to deploy troops against protesters at "Send the @$#@$@ illegals home" rallies.
You're absolutely correct on the ROE. That'll tell the tale.
Truly, we're living in interesting times.
Sorry bout that. Thanks for keepin me honest!
You’re welcome ;)
Then put the detainees behind barbed wire in desert POW compounds because that's precisely what they are - POWs! They are part and parcel of the enemy's ground troops in an undeclared war against the United States. Oh, and if the Guard spots any armed coyotes or drug cartel members, have them shoot to kill.
As a bonus, you'll be the next President of the United States!
Believe me, this nonsense will stop, el quicko!
The feds could stop the tide of illegal immigration any time they want. The could have done it decades ago. That the problem still exists means they want it that way. Anything else you hear from them, anything they say, is just smoke screen diverting your attention from that fact.
According to the 2010 census:'
Texas has 1,650,000 illegals which is 6.7% of the population. And 1,100,000 illegals in the workforce which is 9% of the total workforce.
They consume and produce and are part of the Texas economy. There are many jobs built on top of the work done by the illegals.
Don't look for Texas to get rid of them. Guv Perry is not going to send the guard into west Dallas, or north Houston.
My point exactly. The ruling class could have resolved this at any point. The reasons vary from elitist to elitist but the end result is the same. They don’t want it resolved
Arrest? The Guard is military, not police. Shoot.
Arrest = legalized detention
