New England Facing Power Shortage This Winter?
IceAgeNow.info ^ | 26JUL2014 | Robert Felix

Posted on 07/27/2014 9:55:02 AM PDT by Jack Hydrazine

“Get ready for the New England power shortage,” reads the headline in The Spectator. “Governors are already meeting in emergency session.”

“In a hell-bent campaign to rid itself of any form of dirty, messy “non-renewable” energy, New England has been closing down coal and oil plants for the last decade,” the article warns. “In 2000, 18 percent of New England’s electricity came from coal and 22 percent from oil. Today it’s 3 percent coal and 1 percent oil. Meanwhile, natural gas — the fuel that everybody loves until you have to drill for it — has risen from 15 percent to a starkly vulnerable 52 percent, just behind California.

“There’s only one problem. New England doesn’t have the pipelines to bring in the gas.”

Thanks to Bill Gannon for this link

“If these predictions are correct or nearly correct, looks like the Northeast will have brownouts or possibly blackouts this winter,” says Bill. “My prediction comes from the fact that the EPA has reduced power generation in the Northeast by forcing older coal plants to shut down.

“The natural gas plants only store gas on site. Why? Because environmentalists won’t let pipelines be built. How about power from Canada’s hydro power dams? Those same pesky environmentalists, fight tooth and nail to keep transmission lines from spoiling the scenery.

Environmentalists….they call themselves green because they’re too yellow to admit they’re really reds.”

That forecast for the NW doesn’t bode well for the SW with respect to water.

“She says, ‘I can be packed by tomorrow morning.’”

And so it was that on October 31, 2008, after 32 happy years, Harold Vinegar retired from his job as chief scientist at Shell Oil. And barely five weeks later, on December 7, 2008, along with wife Robin and his son, a cartographer in the same business, he made aliya.

Very interesting article.
Thanks

“They voted for it. Enjoy it.”

I understand the sentiments, but my bet is the movers and shakers who caused this to happen will not suffer. They'll be playing volleyball on some beach in Aruba.

As always, it's the ‘average Joe and Jane’ who suffer the consequences, and they are generally not of the socialist, green mentality.

Your welcomed. I shared it with friends that have family in Israel and they were amazed. The guy has figured out how to mature a field and it is a huge story that no one sees. I post it to tangentially ask, can that field in Western Ma / CT be matured via his process and can they become somewhat energy self-sufficient. Given the green mentality of those in that area I know I’d say it is a big negative. IMHO they are waiting on magical unicorn farts and don’t get what and where energy comes from and what it takes to make it happen.

Your comment basically reinforces my point.

They voted for these people.

The people in Gaza voted for Hamas to lead them.

It isn’t like those states and Gaza are run by dictatorships.

With democracy comes responsibility. The number of benevolent, fair and just dictatorships in human history is vanishingly small, and it never lasts more than one generation.

The thermal inertia of the planet is a year-round thing. We have had a very cool summer. I will make a guess that next winter will probably be even tougher.

After the lights go out and someday restored there will be a hearing as to why it happened.

FERC,NERC,DOE,NRC and Congressional Committees will be dragging a Reliability Coordinator over the coals as to “why they let it happen.”

Yes, the price of propane is about $4.50 a gallon. It’s horrendous.

“With democracy comes responsibility”

We are a representative Republic, are we not?

My point is that the people who cause this to happen are the ones with the political influence, usually because they have the cash to buy influence. And, as usual, they are never around to reap the whirlwind of what they’ve sown.

The average voter expects whomever is elected to office that they govern in a responsible way. It is reasonable to expect the states not to allow its citizens to freeze over the winter. Many Americans are not as informed as you. Maybe they don’t have the time or inclination, or they lack understanding.

May the Urban Big Sh*ty Libtards freeze to death in the dark.

As they are rabidly against coal fired electricity, no such power should be sent into their power grids.

“Unfortunately when it happens the rest of us will pay for it.”

Yeah, I know, that’s the way it is here in California too. We’d have a nice state if it weren’t for Liberals and Illegals. Oh well, had a really nice dinner out at a very nice restaurant overlooking Half Moon Bay last night, so we still have the stellar views, good weather and good food.

We're in an all-electric area of the low Kalifornia desert, so the only propane users are those that have swimming pools/hot tubs......we used to see the Amerigas rigs all the time in out little 'hood, but rarely these days; once in awhile during our winter months (which can get fairly cold at night for a Jacuzzi soak), but that's about it.

If New England freezes, the media and the government will blame it on glow-bull warming.

The electrical system dropping out could require the better of 2 weeks to initialize a grid restart at low power. Remember also, water will be short not just food. Weather will hamper supply/ relief convoy activity. Little fuel will be available for generators or transport. Plan to hold out until spring.
