NYPD officer pictured 'putting seven-months pregnant woman into a chokehold for illegally grilling'
Daily Mail Online ^ | July 28, 2014 | Ashley Collman

An advocacy group has released images which claim to show an NYPD officer putting a seven-months pregnant woman into a chokehold for illegally grilling on the sidewalk in front of her apartment. NYPD officers have been banned from using the chokehold since 1993, but an officer can be seen in the pictures wrapping his arm around 27-year-old Rosan Miller's neck in the Saturday incident. Her young daughter is also in the pictures, watching the arrest unfold. The NYPD told MailOnline that it is currently investigating the incident.

Things would be so much easier if the officer had summarily executed the woman, her husband and brother to teach the peasants a lesson. The NYPD will do nothing and probably give the cop a promotion to detective.

I got kicked out of the movie theater for bringing in my own food. My argument was that the concession stand prices were just way too high - besides, I hadn’t had a BBQ in a long time.

There are so many laws they literally cannot be counted. The ABA tried and gave up. As for the cops being hated and ignored by peons, they worked hard to earn this total lack of respect.

I look at a person in a situation like this as a patriotic hero. Exposing the evil thuggish behavior is our only chance retaining our freedom.

A sidewalk is meant to carry foot traffic. It isn’t meant to be set up as a kitchen, with a stove with outside temperatures of hundreds of degrees exposed to passers by. It sets up a situation where someone could get seriously burned.

It’s a reasonable law.

A complaint was made and the officer responded.

What would you suggest?

Would it be better to allow the grill there and have some kid’s face get shoved up against it by accident when several groups tried to pass at the same time?

Patriotic? You have no idea how this officer approached the woman, and yet here you are slamming all police based on the incident. That’s just nutter territory,

There’s no report of anyone complaining about the barbecue.
From the article:

“The lieutenant involved in the incident allegedly responded to a domestic call from a different resident at 594 Bradford St on Thursday and was in the neighborhood to follow up on Saturday when he witnessed the illegal grilling.”

I appreciate you correcting me on that point. I glossed over that part and didn’t realize he was called to a different residence for another issue.

We may not like the laws, but they are the laws. An officer is obligated to enforce laws he observes being broken. I don’t know exactly what transpired. It looks as if the woman got angry because he challenged her.

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers — and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system.”

Rome 2000: “In NYC, Thou Shall Not Grill.”
No kidding! Illegal grilling in New York City will land you in jail.

I wasn't aware of how strict barbecue regulations are in New York City.
From the article below:

“You're only allowed to set up that barbie on a balcony or terrace if you're 10 feet away from your apartment and have either a hose or four gallons of water at the ready. And that's just for charcoal - forget about propane, unless you've got a real backyard.”
(Get the complete safety scoop at nyc.gov/fdny.)

They are ridiculous. You can't barbecue within ten feet of your structure, and that includes on a concrete patio on your own residential property within TEN FEET OF your house!

There are only 14 public spaces in that entire $hithole known as New York City that you can legally barbecue. No wonder these people barbecue on their front sidewalk.

Correction: there are 30 places in NYC to legally barbecue on public property. Only two areas in the Bronx, where this arrest for illegal sidewalk barbecuing occurred.

That sounds outrageous to me. None the less, those are the laws on the books and the officer was within his mandate to talk to the woman.

I’m not able to tell what transpired between them. I’m not convinced the officer was wrong to talk to her. I don’t know how she reacted. I doubt the officer walked up and arrested her without some provocation.

If you think about it.... you have at least a million idiots in NYC. You can’t turn them all lose with open fires.

I’m of the opinion that he went there to arrest her, as it IS an arrestable offense in New North Korea city.

According to GrandJediMasterYoda, who used to live in NYC, its become the North Korea of the United States, only with better food.

Funny that, because there’s idiots everywhere in this country, and yet almost all municipalities across this country allow people to barbecue on their own patios and decks, and they do so without any problems.

I guess New Yorkers all need to be babysat by the nanny state for their own good, and arrested if necessary for minor violations of ridiculous fire codes.

LOL, well thanks for the link. I’m not a fan of New York on just about any level. I don’t like over-regulation. I also don’t like large apartment building fires.

I don’t know what to tell you.

The ridiculously strict fire codes against barbecues in New York city:
NO barbecues allowed within ten feet of your home or apartment.
Propane barbecues aren’t even allowed. Period.

Every apartment and condominium complex in my area allows propane barbecues on their decks. I’ve several friends who are on the fire department, I’ll ask them, but I’m not aware of any apartments having any major fire related to barbecues. The idea that its a jailable offense is ludicrous, but that’s clearly stated in the article I read (link above)
