The faint odor of ‘skunk’ is wafting in the air around this one - you’d think if somebody leaked this without WH/Obama’s permission, they’d be able to figure it out pretty quickly (how many people would truly have access to something like this?) and there would be retribution. I think this was leaked to make Obama appear tough .... the truly “tough” don’t need to prove it by leaking private conversations with embattled heads of state, but a weak bully narcissist would like the idea.

Though I question whether it was a “senior US official” and not somebody from Israel.
I can't see the Republicans actually impeaching him, even with super majorities in both houses. We can hope they will threaten to do so unless Obama appoints real halfway decent figures to state and DOD with the understanding the he will no longer control the foreign policy of the US.
The other alternative is what usually happens in a republic when a wannabee dictator also manifests gross incompetence.
