Putin a ‘megalomaniac’ who must be challenged with force: Sen. Johnson

Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “megalomaniac” who will forge ahead in eastern Ukraine unless the U.S. and others stand up to him with actual force, because economic sanctions are simply not enough, Sen. Ron Johnson said Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Republican said Ukrainian leaders need arms and other assistance — but not ground troops — to push back against the Russian separatists and their allies in Moscow.

“You actually achieve peace through strength,” he told MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown.

Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson calls Vladimir Putin a 'megalomaniac' - July 29, 2014 - U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “megalomaniac” who “doesn’t care about the Russian economy” as he urged the U.S. and its western allies to show resolve in the crisis over Ukraine.

“We really need to match military strength to military strength,” Johnson said as he called for re-equipping the Ukraine military to help the country secure its eastern border, where Russian-backed separatists are battling government forces.

“Vladimir Putin is not deterred,” Johnson said. “He’s going to continue onward unless he realizes someone might stand up to him.”

So is Obama. What force will you use against him, Sen. Johnson?

I think our megalomaniac has done a much better job at destroying our economy.

The greatest national threat I see is Barack Obama, not Vlad Putin.

Perhaps somebody could tell the Senator that there’s a megalomaniac much closer to home. One who is every bit as rapacious and evil, if not more so.

Sen, Johnson explicitly said he didn’t want to send U.S. troops to Ukraine. Only military aid and I presume that means something a little more deadly than the MREs that Obama sent them.

Just last week Johnson compared Obama to Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

Can’t get too excited about Ron Johnson’s warnings when he says nothing about our more immediate enemy — Islam in general and ISIS in particular.

Barking up the wrong tree. The next 9/11 will not come from Putin.

“Challenged with force”

I nominate you, Senator, for the first wave of the LaFollette brigade.

I’m very concerned that too many people in Washington want a war with Russia.

As Johnson points out, peace can only be achieved through strength. Obama’s weakness and supplication is making war more likely. Putin will only back down when confronted with a superior force. Otherwise the war that has already begun will only escalate until it engulfs the entire world.
