First Amendment: Government's assault on religious liberty has hit a new low as the IRS settles with atheists by promising to monitor sermons for mentions of the right to life and traditional marriage.

A lawsuit filed by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) asserted that the Internal Revenue Service ignored complaints about churches' violating their tax-exempt status by routinely promoting political issues, legislation and candidates from the pulpit.

Who the hell is the IRS to be “striking deals” with anybody? If we had a real, honest DOJ, somebody would be doing some hard time turning big rocks into little rocks.

How about the black churches that regularly promote Democrats? I.e. actual political candidates.

Those pro-homosexual marriage liberaltarians must be so proud of themselves. The last thing they care about is churches.

Pray America wakes up

Title sounds like the IRS is hiring atheists to do the monitoring.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. You can bet the churches to be monitored will be only those attended by WHITE conservatives. The IRS is at it again.

On the surface at least this smells like the phony lawsuits and sham settlements that the EPA engages in with left-wing environmental groups, under the terms of which left-wing policy becomes enshrined in the court order.

Clearly, unbalanced enforcement against white suburban churches but not against black inner-city churches which support Democrats is inequitable. One is tempted to say that there should be no restrictions whatsoever on churches engaging in political action but that opens the door to fraudulent churches created solely for that purpose. Another approach means going in the opposite direction: no church may enjoy a tax exemption if it engages in any political activity whatsoever. This, however, means that black churches will have to stop being organs of the Democrat party and it raises problems concerning a church's ability to defend its interests, qua church, on matters directly affecting them in their functions as churches such as hiring only believers. Churches should have the right certainly to engage in free speech and lobby in their own interests to survive.

Where does one draw the line between a church acting within the scope of its traditional role and political speech? Certainly the line should not be drawn by Lois Lerner's IRS. Nor should it be drawn by secret settlements to litigation between Lois Lerner's IRS and a left wing agitation group.

The irony here is that secular humanists (of which most atheists are), believe that humans are capable of a collective morality absent (faith-based) religion. It never occurs to them that the entirety of human history demonstrates that humans (individually and collectively) are more likely to act in an immoral manner in the absence of a moral code based on religion... put bluntly, their core belief is based on faith rather than on evidence.

This Gestapo needs to be eliminated with the executive level leading the way.

Support no candidate that does not support annihilation of the IRS.

Nothing really NEW here. The Unitarians have been "monitoring" churches for political speech for several years.

The only twist is the IRS being directly involved.

ABSOLUTELY unconstitutional.

The irony is, I can't remember the last time my parish priest spoke against abortion or gay marriage.

So in Seattle at least, no worries about running afoul of being "political" at all.

They are definitely on the liberal side. So no worries.

Only Conservatives will be targeted—you know that. This got to end—The IRS needs to be defanged and broken up. Maybe ended completely.
