That’s true. Never thought of it before. THO, there is a certain breed of New Yorker, regardless of ethnicity or even gender, who will NOT leave the old neighborhood, even if the old neighborhood as such no longer exists. They know where their church is, the butcher (if he’s still around), the drug store (if the pharmacist is still around), etc. They know the subway and bus lines to get them where they want to go. They just WON’T leave.
Yes, and some of them (especially the elderly) pay a huge price for that in terms of crime. I sympathize with them; they want to stay in an area where they don’t need cars and know people.
