Is Barack Obama Plotting a Coup?
Powerline ^ | 8/3/2014 | John Hinderaker

That seems like an awfully strong word, but it is the term that distinguished law professor Glenn Reynolds, no hysteric, uses to describe the Obama administration’s oft-reported plan to issue executive amnesty to five or six million illegal immigrants in violation of federal law. Glenn’s characterization is a fair one. When a tyrant asserts the right to rule by decree in a state that has formerly been subject to the rule of law, he is commonly described as carrying out a coup d’etat.

That is just what the Obama administration has done, and reportedly will continue to do. When Obama changed the Affordable Care Act by decree–to name just one example, substituting “2014″ for “2013″ in a critical provision of the statute–he acted as a tyrant. In his refusal to enforce the immigration laws, contrary to the Constitution which requires him to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed,” he has acted like a tinpot dictator, asserting the right to change or ignore the law by fiat. If he now directly nullifies Section 274(a) of the Immigration and Nationalities Act by legalizing, and issuing work permits to, five or six million illegal immigrants, thereby repealing federal law by decree, how else can we describe his action but as a coup? The Obama administration openly takes the position that the rule of law no longer applies.

Can you imagine the furor that would have resulted if President Nixon, in the midst of the Watergate crisis, had asserted the right to repeal or amend federal statutes by decree? No, actually, you can’t. Forget impeachment; he would have been escorted out of the Oval Office by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. What, then, makes Barack Obama special? How can he claim the right to rule by decree without suffering the same condemnation? Well, the answer is obvious: he is a Democrat. But is that really enough? No president, Democrat or Republican, has ever dreamed of asserting such unconstitutional authority.

I am one of many who have ridiculed the Democrats’ seemingly weird obsession with impeachment. But perhaps there is method to the Democrats’ apparent madness. If they know that President Obama is about to do something that obviously warrants impeachment–asserting the right to rule by executive decree, and repealing the nation’s immigration laws by fiat–perhaps it is shrewd on their part to preemptively attack the idea of impeachment and commit Republicans to the fact that they have no thought of any such thing. Then, when Obama makes his move, it will be harder for Republicans to switch gears and start talking about removing him from office. That strikes me as the most logical explanation for the Democrats’ well-coordinated, but seemingly pointless, anti-impeachment campaign.

Today, the White House started backing off on plans to issue an executive amnesty. Maybe, as Glenn Reynolds says, this is a sign that someone in the White House is in touch with reality. Perhaps a coup has been averted, on this subject at least. But eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, so let’s not let down our guard.

That’s why I have said forget impeachment. At some point he is going to step over the line and have to be forcibly removed.

Yes, the anti-constitutional coup has already taken place.

At this point, I have no idea how the Supreme Court would interpret Barack Hussein Obama's citizenship, if any. So to me, the coup consists of them not having ruled on the many cases of varying quality that have come before them.

By ducking the issue, they have caused a constitutional crisis. But wait, there's more:

Frankly, right now, I have no idea what a citizen is or isn't.
Am I a citizen because I am the offspring of two American Citizen, born in the USA? Or am I a citizen because I have a driver's license issued by a sovereign state? Beats me, and it really shouldn't.
How can the offspring of any alien, never mind an illegal alien, be a citizen of this country?
Is Canadian-born Ted Cruz a Natural Born Citizen, simply by virtue of having an American Mother?
Is Bobby Jindal a Natural Born Citizen by virtue of birth in the US of one naturalized parent and one alien parent?
Is Marco Rubio a Natural Born Citizen, even though neither of his parents is, or was an American citizen at the time of his birth?

Right now, it seems to me that citizenship (who is, who ain't, and what kind) is open to a variety of interpretations based on regulations and bureaucratic practices more than law. Now that ain't right. What I, or anyone else "believes," or "feels," is neither here nor there. Do we have laws, or not?

“I don’t think Obama as a leftist adheres to any serious principles which would make him view a coup as a terrible thing.”

Leftists know only the revolution.

There are no principles, no good things, no bad things; only the revolution.

IMHO

Joe Biden. A laughable chief executive. Anything he tries will be laughed at and ignored by congress.

Disagree. Joey Plugs, your favorite vaudevillian entertainer, is a passed master politician. He knows where every smelly corpse in DC is buried and who buried it. He is a vicious partisan fighter, with a common touch that Barry can only envy. Of course, he is a Left Wing ideologue, but of the practical wheeler-dealer 'git'er-done" type, not the artsy-fartsy Left Wing Pansy Pseudo-Intellectual type ... and he likes girls.

From an operational and tactical point of view, he would be much more effective in the job than Barry. Of course, that would be bad for the Republic! Just don't sell Joey too short. He's crazy like a fox. And, he is a dyn-o-mite campaigner.

Tell you what, Cowboy. I wouldn't be atall surprised to see HIM on the 2016 ticket!

stand up chuck...

if the Republicans had half a brain they have chronicled every malapropism that ‘plate and plugs’ Biden has ever said and are ready to flood the airways with them.

of course the Republicans do NOT have half a brain or any balls...

After learning about Hamas's plan to attach Israel sometime in September, I wonder if there was a larger scaled coordinated attack to happen at the same time in the US and other places.

Israel's vigilance just may have foiled a much larger catastrophe. Or maybe not.

That in itself is an excellent reason for removing Barky.

Cowboy, we here in the choir don't seem to ever understand that Joey Plug's song and dance is exactly what makes him the belovèd of his people.

Republicans do NOT have half a brain or any balls...

The Namby Pamby Safe Seat Party Platform is "Buenos Días! We can give you everything ... and much more ... much more efficiently than those nasty Democrats. And we're much nicer people, with 'family' values, but we love LGBT people too! We'll never ever say a harsh word because that scares the female voter, you know.

The country eats red-hot pepperoni pizza tacos with fries, and the Republicans are still serving Wonder Bread PB&J sandwiches with the crust cut off.

What will beat the Democrats? How about a A Program, A Plan, and some Leaders who can sell it. Half the electorate does not vote. Let's go get'em!

While 'Coup de Main' translates directly as a hand strike, it has completely different meanings in French and English.

In English it means a sudden strike, usually a military attack requiring surprise.

In French it means a helping hand as in "Donner un coup de main à quelqu'un" - To give someone a helping hand.

"Ceterum censeo 0bama esse delendam."

Uh oh, you’re gonna bring on the Joe-Biden-Will-Be-Worse crowd.

Joe Biden would not be worse. But Vice President Hillary "old sot" Clinton or Elizabeth "squaw" Warren might be.

I’m there Maine man. The problem is the fight first, with the GOPe. Like down in Mississippi with the GOPe getting the Dhimmicrats to vote in the repube primary.

We have a whole lot of war to fight before we fight the big war against the Dhimmicrats.

Anyone who is employed in an agency under control of the executive branch should be suspect. That includes: CIA, DOJ, FBI, NSA, DOD, DOE, DOI, EPA, FDA, ATF, IRS, SoS, BLM, and all of the other agencies not listed.

Want to see that “domestic force just as powerful as the military”? Those alphabet soup agencies are it, and every single one of them is packed with loyal leftists looking to become the next proletariat.
