Bergdahl Roommate: Chairman of Joint Chiefs Told Us Bowe Was A Deserter
Daily Caller ^ | 8/4/14 | Patrick Howley

Then-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen admitted that Bowe Berghdal was a deserter, and said that he did not know why the military was focusing so much energy on trying to save him, according to one of Bergdahl’s platoon mates.

“The joint chief of staff, Admiral Mullen at the time. He came out to our unit and had Thanksgiving dinner, and he said, ‘Yeah he walked off, everybody knows he walked off, I don’t know why they’re trying to’” pretend that he didn’t, Bergdahl’s former infantry roommate Cody Full told The Daily Caller. (RELATED: Bergdahl Was A Deserter, Fellow Soldiers Say)

President Obama currently faces formal condemnation from Congress for illegally releasing five senior Taliban leaders from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Bergdahl, who left his post near Afghanistan’s Pakistan border in 2009 and was captured by the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist network. The revelation that the military’s senior leader knew about Bergdahl’s desertion years in advance creates new questions about Obama’s conduct. Bergdahl recently returned to active duty with a desk job in San Antonio, Texas.

I thought these were two VERY different issues. I had always been told the military goes after and tries to get deserters VERY hard. But as far as Bergdahl is concerned, people seem to be saying the military should have allowed Bergdahl to leave and not done anything about it. Is there a military person here who an answer if the military really has such a laissez faire attitude towards desertion now?

You know they’re trying to pretend he didn’t walk off: It’s a political move to try to save Obama any embarrassment, and save face for Islam.

My understanding of it (thanks to a few friends - our system is a tad different) is he can’t be tried in a military court unless he is considered active duty.

Flying a desk is still active duty.

We executed a poor schnook for desertion during WWII and he didn’t defect to the enemy. If you seek the enemy how can that be called a capture?

All true however we are dealing with the sorry ass Zero administration.
The veteran in me doesn't think the Army brass will let him get away with it,
He is a DESERTER.

“Bergdahl recently returned to active duty “......

Anyone care to explain what those released prisoners are now “active” at? I would venture to guess they are up to no good.

Think I’m gonna argue that, brother? Guy is a deserter at best. Traitor at worst.

But let’s dot the i’s and cross the t’s here. Make sure there isn’t a single legal foul up or technicality he can skate on. There are others of ours who are no longer pulling air, thanks to his actions. It’s not about us - it’s about them.

Some have yes, they are worried about getting canned.
We should have enough with some gonads that will not allow this puke to get away with it.

The ONLY reason this TRAITOR was “saved”, is because it gave this Islamic enemy agent posing as our POTUS an excuse to release 5 top Taliban commanders from Gitmo. That is the ONLY reason this deal went through. He could give a rats ass about this Bergdahl as long as his “brothers” were freed. This Islamic puke polluting our White house has been trying to release TERRORISTS since day one, literally. The very first day he took office January 20th 2009 the very FIRST thing he did was try to close down Gitmo. Above everything else THAT was his #1 priority the second he stepped into that Oval office. WHY? BECAUSE HE’S AN ISLAMIC ENEMY AGENT! We have the freakin’ ENEMY in the nations highest office courtesy of the Democrat party, and Republicans just sit on their ass as this sc*mbag continues to empower and spread radical Islam while destroying the US internally.

President Obama currently faces formal condemnation from Congress ...

He's probably more worried about how to keep flying pigs out of the WH garden.

What does “they’re” mean when uttered by the chairman of JCS? I mean, wasn’t he the boss? Sounds like something 0 would say.

You know rule one - the medic is the guy who covers your ass, saves your ass and acts as an informal confessor.

Bergdahl’s unit medic has flat out stated he were a deserter. I am not going to disbelieve him. I’m just hung up between deserter and really stupid, or traitor.

This was the way I saw deserters handled during my time (1970-1991) in the Coast Guard. When a military member decides to go UA, there are a variety of administrative procedures that the command must take at certain time increments. My memory recalls that after being gone 24 hours, the member goes into a bad time status. That means, he doesn’t draw pay and he owes that time gone to military.

On the tenth day of being UA, An Absentee Wanted by the Armed Forces form is generated and is sent out to literally everyone. Also on the tenth day the member’s locker is broken into and everything is inventoried and is given to the Master at Arms for safekeeping.

On the 30th day, the member is declared a deserter from the military and his personal effects and records are transferred to to the appropriate Coast Guard District Office. If/when the member shows up or is apprehended, the District Office transfers the records and personal effects back to the parent unit.

In most cases, the member is not accused of desertion, because a successful argument was made by saying he was coming back and he still had his ID card on him. So, you do charge him with being UA, missing movement, disobeying a regulation and then look up Article 134 to think of any other charge and specification you can throw at him.

In Bergdahl’s case, he did leave a note, which depending on what it said, could lead the convening authority to try him for desertion.

Personally, based on what I’ve sent the members of his unit say about him, I’ve rather we kept the five psychopaths in GTMO and let that treasonous bastard stay with his new playmates in Afghanistan.
