A member of the U.S. Army Band said he was forced out of the U.S. Army for having anti-Obama bumper stickers on his personal car, serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches at a party and reading books written by conservative authors like Sean Hannity, a federal lawsuit alleges.
Master Sergeant Nathan Sommers, a 25-year veteran of the military and a decorated soloist in the U.S. Army Band Chorus, claims he was forcibly retired from the Army due to his religious and conservative political beliefs. I first told you about Sommers last year in a series of exclusive Fox News reports.

John Wells, an attorney representing Sommers, called him a true hero who lost his career while trying to stand up for his religious beliefs. He alleges that he drew the ire of his superiors because of his belief in traditional marriage.

Looking -
No Unit citations on right side - nada
on left side (his) don't see any 'foreign engagement' or MANY other ribbons/medals one would expect to see on a 25 year vet. Looks like the few he has might be just for 'being there' every few years and/or 'good conduct' - Certainly there's not much there for 25 years service.
Sounds like he might have a braggadocio complex - (just made that up ;) - with a sub-conscious need to be recognized as 'military!'
Article 88 - Contempt toward officials
Article 92 -Failure to obey order or regulation
Article 89 - Disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer
134 is the catch-all, if he was counseled to remove it and didn't he might have a problem. Most likely according to the article as he was ordered to remove it. The rest of the Chik fil-A and Hannity books is smoke.
88 you would think applies, but he wasn't a commissioned officer so it doesn't apply.
92 if there has been a regulation banning these types of bumper stickers this would apply.
89 would apply if 0 was a commissioned officer, but even if that was true, there is an exception:
(5) Special defenseunprotected victim. A superior commissioned officer whose conduct in relation to the accused under all the circumstances departs substantially from the required standards appropriate to that officers rank or position under similar circumstances loses the protection of this article. That accused may not be convicted of being disrespectful to the officer who has so lost the entitlement to respect protected by Article 89.
It has always been dead, never existed.
We had to emphasize that a few times in the units I with during both Clinton’s time and GWB’s. When you pull a car into the squadron parking lot covered in anti-CIC bumperstickers, you have a problem that is best solved by a few minutes with a razor blade and a bucket of warm water.
Life in the military is NOT a democratic republic....it is an authoritarian lifestyle. There is not, or ever has been (since we’ve had a full time, standing military), the freedom of speech, or expression.
Get with the program, or get out.
Sorry. It did not come up on a Search.
The highest award ribbon he's wearing is an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM).
Active Duty ping.
No. But the principle is the same. This soldier is standing on the same principle.
At least he's standing, most are on their knees (in more ways than one).
LOL.
OK. :)
And he can read his books, post pictures in uniform, and make strong twitter comments from his new job. I find it hilarious that FReepers are supportive of this behavior at all. If it was Bush and a leftist Soldier, ya’ll would be demanding his head on a plate.
I am reading Todd Starnes’ book, God Less America. I highly recommend it but it is depressing. How I wish we had more reporters/journalists like him.
I would never want a child of mine to serve under Obama.
