Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rand Paul (Ky.) are trying to avoid an ethanol landmine in Iowa.
Both Republican senators have criticized federal subsidies for ethanol, which are popular in Iowa, the state hosting the first Republican contest in the 2016 race for the White House.
Iowa kingmakers in the party such as Sen. Chuck Grassley want the Republican presidential nominee in 2016 to champion ethanol. Thats a problem for Cruz and to a lesser extent for Paul, who are both crisscrossing the state this week in advance of possible campaigns for the presidency.
Cruz has introduced legislation that would repeal the renewable fuel standard over the next five years. The standard mandates that gasoline contain 10 percent ethanol by volume.
I believe we should pursue an all-of-the-above energy policy and that Washington shouldnt be picking winners and losers, he said.
Cruz argues the fuel standard has proven unworkable and costly, according to a summary of his bill.
He says it ignores the problem of an insufficient supply of biofuels to meet the standard.
Paul claims that bureaucratic regulations and corporate subsides have distorted the marketplace and actually made it tougher for energy developers to market new forms of clean energy.

Unless you’re mowing commercial or have a huge property, it’s hard to imaging the incremental cost for E0 fuel would even show up.
Big Agriculture....another hog at the crony capitalist trough.
Just link ethanol subsidies with NPR subsidies. Iowa “problem” solved.
I have eliminated grains from my diet. Refined sugar also. Grains cause the inflamation that causes heart disease.
But we should not subsidize ethanol. Or mandate the use of ethanol. Let the market decide.
Another reason beef is a gazillion dollars a pound.
It’s the same in North Dakota. The most “patriotic,” “conservative,” “Constitutionalist” farmers worship government money above all else. They have voted for baby-murderers for the past 40 years because they go to Washington and “fight” for North Dakota.
Me, too. The word is spreading. No thanks to Moochelle, who is still yapping about "whole grains" and "heart-healthy oils."
I’d bet that there 10 times as many smart people as there are corn farmers.
Paying for that would be more of a one-time subsidy instead of an annual subsidy, right?
Prolly true.
I just hate ethanol!!
Cant find a decent ear of corn anymore at a decent price at any price for that matter here.
Bingo! That is why we need to remove the subsidies and laws to mandate its use.
Partially true.
Drought in Texas has been a huge factor.
Truth is E0 would prolly be a reduction in cost.
Rebuilding replacing carbs and fuel lines all the time, buying Stabil and the like aint cheap
Your other option is if you have a general aviation airport close by have them sell you some 100LL. Tell them you’re trying to get your rebuilt Piper Cup in your garage going.
I have also eliminated all vegetable oils. The omega 6 oils - ie, vegetables oils - have no place in a healthy diet. Omega 3s, like oilve oil, are best. I fry foods in lard. Tastes great
I’ve used E10 for decades (here in Indiana it was pervasive even back in the 1990s) without any issues. Not sure why.
I know boats in particular have problems with tanks and carbs.
Ethanol is not the whole story with the corn that is used to make the ethanol. All that’s removed from it is the starch. The remainder is protein rich feed, and is processed and fed out to cattle, hogs, etc.
So, when figuring the value, any analysis that doesn’t also include the feed that is made after the alcohol processing is not fairly assessing what the price actually is. See the following:

Iowa only maters to the MSM.
Get rid if Ethanol in gas and watch Iowa grow a corn mountain.
Exactly. This is the problem with the Republican primary system. Unfortunately the elites hold the strings when it comes to deciding the order of primaries.
