You bet. Don’t agree with Neil’s politics most of the time, but this is a great song.

Neil is actually better than most.

In the 80s, he said some good things about Reagan, and took a lot of heat from his liberal fans for it....He basically told them to ‘F Off.’

It’s true, during the 80’s and his shocking pinks band era he was pro Reagan. In recent years he has been less conservative with his Bush bashing. Neil is a great rock n’ roll artist, and I try to separate my love of the music with the political bends. Removing politics, Neil Young is the best rock artist in my lifetime.

Not as if a lot of conservatives haven't bashed Bush as well.

So true. Songs like Cortez The Killer, Old Man, Winterlong and albums like On The Beach, Tonights The Night, and Zuma are how I remember Neil Young from my youth. Neil weathered the 70’s drug-fueled era and emerged very strong in my opinion.

I remember when “Trans” came out, and how all the traditional Neil fans hated it. I thought it was one of the best things he ever did, I like the fact, that like Dylan, he won’t let himself get boxed in.

Neil and the Shocking Pinks is awesome.

IIRC, Neil had to deliver another album under a record deal that he wanted to get out of. So, he put out the Shocking Pinks to fulfill his contract and a poke in the eye to the record company. I think they tried to sue him over it.

I bet that queen Geffen was not happy with that.

How Neil Young Became the First Artist to Get Sued for Not Being Himself

Neil Young is the only artist in the history of modern recording to be sued for refusing to be himself. The suit, filed by Geffen Records, Young’s label for much of the Eighties, charged that he was violating his contract by recording ‘unrepresentative’ albums. In other words, Neil Young wasn’t making Neil Young music.

The article doesn’t mention the Shocking Pinks, but I’m pretty sure it was a big part of the lawsuit.

Also, the song “Payola Blues” was clearly directed at Geffen.

Yes, as I recall, Trans was an album Neil described as a way to communicate with his son, who had cerebral palsy. Geffen Records, Neil's label at the time I think tried to sue him over claims he was purposely releasing non-commercial material or something like that, and the Shocking Pinks release was his last for Geffen If I recall correctly. I loved the material from this era. Neil lived in CA and was a Reagan fan in the 80's and didn't take any crap from the liberals who challenged him at that time.
