We dont know whats going to happen in eastern Ukraine, where for five months government forces have battled Russian-backed separatists while Russian troops, having already seized Crimea, mass on the border. But theres some frightening evidence that Moscow intends to invade mainland Ukraine.
The probability of invasion is much, much higher than it has ever been, James Miller, managing editor of The Interpreter, told War is Boring in an e-mail. The Interpreter translates media from the Russian press and blogosphere into English for use by analysts and policymakers.
The Russians reportedly have moved military vehicles with peacekeeping insignia to the bordera first since the crisis in the Ukraine began. Earlier this month, NATO warned that the Russians could mount an incursion into Ukrainian territory under the guise of a peacekeeping mission.

This has been reported, off and on, for several months now.
The UN sanctions and protects Hamas and Hezbollah, so why not?
Same crap Putin pulled in Georgia. Next on the chopping block will be the trainloads of blank Russian passports to North Poland around Gdansk to protect those poor Russians on the wrong side of the border of Kolingrad.
Putin’s waiting for Bammy to tee off Saturday.
That was always Putin’s obvious strategy. To have the “green men” stir up trouble and if the separatists look like they are losing too bad, roll Russian armor for a “humanitarian peace keeping mission”. It’s hard to peer through the propaganda and see how successful the Ukrainians are really being but the likelihood seems to be that at some point they will make Putin decide whether he and his “peacekeepers” will back the separatists with armor.
We can intervene in Iraq. Putin will say it’s within his rights to do the same to protect his “Russians.”
Check. your move Bambi.
Just because it’s an obvious strategy doesn’t make it a bad one. The Ukrainians don’t have a real good way forward to keep those Oblasts in the Ukraine. It’s either let the separatists keep them or fight the separatists and be overrun by Russian “peacekeepers”.
Time to send Ukraine a C-5 load of Javelin and TOW antitank missiles.

My 21 year old daughter has been working ten hours a day all summer to pay for her school. Last night was the first night in six weeks where she was home for dinner. She was watching the news with me, waiting for dinner to finish cooking.
After about ten minutes she turned to me and said, “What the hell is going on in the world? I turn my back for a couple of weeks and it’s gone to hell.”
I told her that she only turned around for a couple of weeks. Obama has been turned around with his head up his ass for six years.”
