Dems in Disarray: Hawaii governor ousted in primary

It’s only a matter of time before the political press picks up on this episode as part of a narrative about the larger Democratic Civil War… right?

On Saturday night, The Aloha State’s Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie lost the battle for his party’s gubernatorial nomination to state Sen. David Ige. Badly. With 99 percent of precincts reporting as of this writing, Igy won 67.4 percent of Democratic primary vote compared to just 31.5 percent for Abercrombie.

The governor’s loss was not unexpected as public opinion surveys in even this difficult to poll state had unmistakably shown for several weeks that Abercrombie was likely to lose this race, but this is still the first time in the state’s history that a sitting governor has been ousted in a primary after serving just one term. Local factors rather than national politics or even the Abercrombie brand were more to blame for this Democratic revolt.

Indicative of the uniqueness of the gubernatorial primary, Sen. Brian Schatz Abercrombie’s appointed replacement for the late Sen. Daniel Inouye (against the late senator’s wishes), may have narrowly survived a primary challenge from Rep. Colleen Hanabusa. “With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Schatz had 49.4 percent of the vote, while Hanabusa had tallied 48.6 percent of the vote,” Fox News reported. “The two were separated by fewer than 2,000 votes out of more than 210,000 ballots cast.”

He must have done something

He promised to produce that Long Form Birth Certificate, but couldn't find it, then later said he had seen it.

It is sort of like Muslims behave when most all of the Christians and Jews are driven out of an area they control; they start turning on each other.

The Democrat civil war will mostly be white hippies against the non-white we want ours crowd.

It will be particularly ugly in California.

the Peoples Republic of Hawaii.

Was this a “Hitler vs Stalin” leftist showdown or what?

The news would be if a tea party dem defeated the gov in the primary. I guess the tea party is not active there.

A big part of this Goobernatorial race in Hawaii is the mass transit rail fail.

I do not know anything about the person that ran against Abercrombie, but I bet he is further to the left, and he was elected because of his ethnicity.

Race/culture is a factor. Whites are in the minority and a variety of Asian descendants (Japanese, Phillipino, Native Hawaiian, etc) are in the majority. IMO, a large percentage tend to have a positive view of big government.

That said, this is a stupendous loss for the hippy. Schatz is a political hack that barely beat out Colleen Hanabusa. How did Abercrombie lose so badly? He seems the farthest left of these leftists and likely the most incompetent.

I’m sorry - for a moment there, I thought you said something about mass transit rail on an island. Surely they didn’t try to float that idea?

that is the news, tho. Not that the MSM will ever admit that the TEA Party principles have influenced both the Rep and Dem parties.

Abercrombie ousted is a good thing and here’s why:

http://www.angelfire.com/big09/AbercrombieOppose2014.html

here’s Ige’s platform,:

http://www.davidige.org/action-plan/

Ige’s election seems to show a swing to the conservative side and may dampen secession fever, which Abercrombie championed. Conservative Reps and Dems have 4 years to focus on keeping that pendulum swinging to the Right. Four more years of Abercrombie would have been as disasterous as re-electing Jerry the Moonbeam Brown will be to California.

Right. We are going to go all out for Duke Aiona and his running mate Elwin Ahu.

Ah, but how will this effect the race for Obama’s Presidential Library? That is prestige and money!

Yes indeed the liberals of Honolulu have a wet dream mass transit rail system. It was touted heavily in Honolulu on how it will magically rid the streets of Honolulu of traffic jams. The sellers of the transit plan pitched the almost free cost since ‘the feds’ will be picking up a large part of the bill and the costs will be distributed throughout the state.......That didn’t go to well with the inhabitants of the other islands or anyone outside of the Pearl City Honolulu corridor. And that was it. About a 20 mile route to cost billions of dollars and with the corruption and cronyism in the police force and union construction firms the rail system would NEVER be completed. Throw in the native Hawaiians claiming every single rock a cultural heritage site they stopped the project cold as soon as the first shovel hit the dirt. Politicians that ran against the rail system did very well. Everyone assumed it was going to be free until they figured out they had to pay for it.

Ho-Lee-Carp!! I knew it was a liberal bastion but had no idea Hawaii had gone that far down the rabbit hole...

I would like to think that you could give those islands to some reasonably bright business minds who know how to market and grow tourism and Hawaii would be more than self sufficient to the point of surplus.
