A guy I knew whose cousin was a NYC garbage man told me his cousin once hauled off a big load of ‘junk’ from the house of a jeweler who had died. In one of the boxes, they found some gold bars.

Garbage men are not supposed to keep anything they find in the garbage, but of course they do. They all have a big compartment in the truck to stow any goodies they find.

Back in the days before garage/yard sales, I worked for a guy that did hauling. You would be surprised what people paid to have hauled away.

We found guns, jewelry, and antiques on a regular basis, along with tools and other valuables.

I found an original 45/70 Sharps and one of the first lightbulbs ever made, in working condition!

I once heard of a guy who accidentally threw out a Glock 27.
