As far as when society breaks down, I believe generally cops will realize they probably won’t get paid anymore and will just go home to protect their families.

it’s war, police against the people. And gradually, the people will win. This isn’t Tienanmen Square where we will accept tanks running over kids.

"Do you hear the people sing...."

There is no reason to trust them without video. Which in this case is conveniently “missing” just like the IRS emails.

Could be. The rules of the game was that he had to attack anyone who honked.

Heard this morning that he was kneeling down begging for the cops not to shoot him.

"Oh lordy lord..please don't shoot me."

What is your problem? Stating “I heard” means I heard it on the news. Where in the world would anyone hear or read anything about this situation except news sources? I’m not trying to inflame anything. The poster posted something he heard and I posted something I heard - two different versions. I was trying to show by example that we do not know what the real story is and you are trying to imply that I am inflaming the situation. Inflaming with who? Who on this site is going to become enraged over what I say or post?

I agree, but I don't think the post-incident aftermath that we seem to always see in situations like this is the proper response of the people.

There’s video, also, but the cops confiscated that. Will it ever see the light of day? Highly unlikely.

A elderly man I know personally had this happen to him. They broke his jaw through the car window. And if you believe these fools won’t attack a armed officer, I have a bridge in New York for sale.

The fact that the fine residents of Mr Browns neighborhood just pretty much rioted for two nights straight doesn’t give you a clue to general mindset of the people these officers have to deal with day to day.

I was at ground zero at the start of the Rodney King Riots in LA and by all rights should have been hospitalized right next to Reginald Denny - many these people were drugged out, violent and loco.

That was 20 years ago and the situation on the streets have gotten much worse in most areas.

The crap our police officers have to deal with on a daily basis would boggle the minds of normal people who have no idea what kinds of depraved stuff is going down in their own neighborhoods, much less some of the war zones they have to work in.

Why was a kid walking in the middle of the street? You can get killed like that.

Especially if Tony Stewart is driving.

You also heard he was a kid on the news. Far from the truth.

The problem is bigger than the “police”.

Several posters make statements that must be prefaced with “If true” - isn’t that the problem? How often does a police officer suffer repercussions for falsifying a report? That’s how you would start cleaning this up - they should be fired for that.

Any government employee should be fired for misdeeds for which a private sector employee would be fired.

Lying on a time card. Non-accountability. Surfing porn all day at work. incompetence.

It’s a government employee thing - where they are accorded “due process”. They tend to believe they are their own elite.

I see this in nearly every government organization - from police departments, fire departments, the military, bureaucracies, federal agencies (note the IRS and many many more).

That is the problem. It shows more with the police because they have more direct opportunity to display their contempt for those who are not members of their self-proclaimed elite. It’s not all, but even the “good” ones do not rat out the abuses.

It is a cultural thing for those in government, and it needs to end.

Even if this is true, and we assume the current set of facts, he assaulted a police officer. He should be stopped at all costs. Such assaults cannot be allowed.

I was not there nor were you. How do we know that is how it happened? But for the sake of argument, let us say it did happen that way. How did the officer phrase it? Did he say "get out of the road" with a hostile tone? Did he say, "hey, it might be a good move to get on the sidewalk before you get hit by a car?" Did Brown say "get bent" or did he just ignore the "order?" We do not know. What would be the proper way to handle it? We don't know? You can also make the arguement that once the officer gave the "order" and the 18 year old - not a kid - disobeyed, did that show of disrespect offend the officers authority? Did the officer then feel he had to prove his authority or he and the entire force loses face? Hell, it seems the people in that neighborhood disrespects the police anyway. Maybe he could have pulled up to the 18 year old and calmly explain things to him like "hey, if you get hit, it's no skin off my nose. Just don't expect us to come running in a hurry. We gave you fair warning. And if something happens to you in the neighborhood, don't bother calling us since you disrespect us so much. Why should we bother with you since you don't want us to bother you. So you see how it works - you help us, we help you. You blow us off, we blow you off. Get it?" Do you think that might have worked?

Which goes back to what I asked earlier - do we have to obey everything coming out of police officers mouth?

My problem is posters like you whose irresponsible comments (I heard the “thug” was shot serveral [sic] times, 35 feet from the police car ...) are like holding up raw meat in front of a bunch of hungry lions.
And sadly, here on FR no less, I don't have to point out who the "hungry lions" are. At the least, you should have provided a source.

Your attitude suggest a certain hostility to police officers.

Where does that contradict the thesis that teaching police officers that many people in the public are hostile to them and thus they should always assume they are potentially dealing with a hostile person until they determine otherwise is a justifiable and legitimate default position.

Good point, police are enforcing political agenda but ALSO they view the people who pay their salaries as the enemy.
