I only knew her from references made in Bugs Bunny cartoons, so I assumed she was a star in the 40s.

Yes, the ‘40s were her heyday. I was born in ‘63, so she was before my time, but I do have a certain liking for some old movies. She had a presence, that’s certain.
I know her from line in song “Key Largo” only saw her act in Murder on the Orient Express pictured as a cartoon in a Bugs Bunny toon.
