Family members said Tuesday that a 25-year-old man was complying with police orders when he was fatally shot by LAPD officers in the Florence neighborhood South Los Angeles.

Officers responded to a report of a possible officer-involved shooting at the intersection of West 65th Street and South Broadway (map) at 8:12 p.m. Monday, Lt. Ellis Imaizumi of the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday evening.

Patrol officers had “conducted an investigative stop” in the 200 block of 65th Street, and “during the stop a struggle ensued” and police opened fire, an LAPD news release issued midmorning Tuesday stated.

:snip:

A man who did not give his name and identified himself only as a cousin of the victim described what he witnessed, saying he had been around the corner when the altercation first occurred.

“They laid him out and for whatever reason, they shot him in the back, knowing mentally, he has complications. Every officer in this area, from the Newton Division, knows that — that this child has mental problems,” the man said.

Given the types of people who make the accusations against the police, it's hard not to go with the police.
If enough boneheads use your logic, the cops have free run to do anything they want.

No amount of training is going to eliminate some of them making bad decisions in the heat of the moment.

True. But until the "protect our own, at all costs" mentality changes, the cops do not deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Are you seriously saying that when confronted with a rioter of the type we’ve seen here, and a policeman, you’ll believe the rioter?

My brother lived in LA and told me there were 3 major violent gangs in the city: The Bloods, the Crips and the LAPD

was that the female officer who shot the homeless guy b/c he was rude to her?

Nope. A group of ABQ cops showed up to roust a man from illegally camping in a foothills neighborhood. He had a history of mental issues, and was armed with a knife (or knives). It was a several-hours-long stand-off that ended in his death.

During the stand-off, reports say they shot him with bean-bags. In this video, you can see them talking to him, him talking back, then him reaching down and picking things up like he was going to leave with them. Then things changed, the cops tossed a flash-bang at him, sent a dog handler with dog in at him, then shot him as he turned away from them.

Here's a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwytoxMuk4U

The officer who fired the shot claimed he feared for the K-9 handler's safety when he fired.

Well perhaps it was the LAPD who kept the Bloods and Crips from going into HIS home.

I didn’t get that shooting, either. Or the old drunk in Fresno with the garden shears. Sometimes the mentally ill need a little more time to process. I don’t like the attitude of ‘let’s get this over quick’.

” They started installing them in
‘10. But according to this article, there
might be a teensy tiny little problem:”

I don’t know about you, but I trust these cops to be honest. Not.

Back to the actual story, we're not talking about a "rioter." We're talking about someone who was apparently executed gangland style by the police while he was unarmed and on his stomach.

Given how cops do exactly this, and other cops keep the Blue Line, it is hard to believe the cops. Your automatic trust of a cop has led to this. It is easy to lie, if no one is critical of their story.

I’m saying I don’t trust a cop anymore that I trust any other suspect.

I don’t like the attitude of ‘let’s get this over quick’.

That mentally-ill homeless man/police stand-off in Albuquerque was not "over quick." The officers were there for more than four hours before it went down. Not saying the shoot was right or wrong (from my viewpoint, it was not justified, but that's me. I wasn't there, and the video of the shoot doesn't clearly show the man's hands right at the end, nor if he was reaching for a knife).

We had another shooting the other day where an officer fired two rounds, with one hitting the perp and killing him. Just prior to this, the perp had rammed the officer's car twice (in the driver's door). The officer was trapped inside his vehicle. The perp got out, and at the last second put up his hands, just before being shot. To me, that one was justified.

Just prior to him ramming the officer's car, he had rammed his girlfriend's car while she was attempting to get away from him. She had her child and a friend in the car with her. They were all attempting to flee on foot after he disable the vehicle.

To me, when the guy got out of his truck and approached the officer's car, there's no way to tell intent, so the officer fired. This was within seconds of the perp exiting his vehicle.

I'm sure there are some bad cops, but the majority are good. I think obama and holders are silently stirring things up. They want to chaos, a crisis. Obama would love to implement marshall law and even delay the election. You get enough bad actors setting up situations where cops feel threatened and he'll have his wish. I have no idea if this cop was acting out of anger and completely guilty , scared and responded badly or innocent. Hopefully the video will show the truth. For the sake of both sides, I pray it's kept safe, if there is one.

I have cousins who are strong Christians and cops. My sons father in law is a recently retired precinct chief and a good man. I can't imagine the pressure these men are under right now. I know, they shouldn't be a cop, and some I know decided it wasn't worth it and quit. Some bad cops are spoiling the whole bunch for every cop. If I was a cop, I would wear a camera on my person at all times so I have proof of what happened. The media is leading the way in making people believe every cop is a bad cop, just as they claim every conservative is extreme, evil and corrupt. What will we end up with if all the decent cops leave? Time to pray because it feels like evil is winning, but I have to remind myself that God is in control. I think He is showing everyone the corrupt instigators and evil plans of some.

The left is always on the side of evil; all cops are bad, all criminals are innocent, abortion good, homosexuality good, legalize all drugs, atheism good Christianity bad,......God help us!

The problem is not the mainstream media, but the alternative media, both on the Marxist left and libertarian and conspiracist sites. Lew Rockwell, Alex Jones and their cohorts are as anti-police as anyone in the Occupy Wall Street crowd.

They armed up after the Rodney King riots in the early 1990s...

They learned all they needed to know when the police pulled out during the riots.
