The EPA's Latest Threat to Economic Growth
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 13, 2014 | By JAY TIMMONS

The agency's needless new ozone standard could cost Americans $270 billion annually.

In a town famous for inaction, Washington is gearing up to take action on a major policy issue. But there's a hitch: The outcome could be the most expensive regulation in the nation's history, possibly tanking the economy and costing jobs at a time when businesses, manufacturers and families are making a comeback.

Later this year, the Environmental Protection Agency will decide whether it should tighten the air-quality standard for ground-level ozone. There are several things about this possible new standard that are alarming.

No single regulation has come close to rendering this level of self-inflicted and ultimately unnecessary economic pain. Remarkably, the EPA has only identified one-third of the controls and technologies that companies and state governments will need to implement to meet the new standard. The other two-thirds are what the agency refers to as "unknown controls."

Now is not the time to sacrifice millions of jobs and trillions of dollars in pursuit of dubious benefits and unreachable targets. The EPA should put on the brakes and allow the existing ozone standards to be implemented.

Didn’t we have an ozone hole a few years ago....did that mysteriously go away while we weren’t looking?

Oh, yes, that’s right it’s still there but it’s no longer a problem now that they have banned CFC’s

Today’s LA Times reports that Tesla may get a pass on complying with environmental regulations for their battery factory.

Two sets of rules and do not ever be duped that any of this has to do with environment.

Consider the words of the man Comrade Obama hired as his top adviser on science and technology, John P. Holdren:

“A massive campaign must be launched to restore a high-quality environment in North America and to DE-DEVELOP the United States. . . . Resources and energy must be diverted from frivolous and wasteful uses in overdeveloped countries to filling the genuine needs of underdeveloped countries. This effort must be largely political.”

The EPA works overtime to carry this out.

"The EPA was proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operation on December 2, 1970, after Nixon signed an executive order."

Hah.,..make me POTUS and I'll repeal Nixon's EO which *created* the EPA. If an EO can be issued, it can be repealed.

the EPA should be reined in and lose most of its power to issue these type of regulations without going through congress.

Isn’t it common knowledge the EPA is a fascist arm of the Obama dictatorship? Everybody knows that, right?

“The EPA needs to be disbanded, immediately. they have become domestic terrorists.”

The power to defund the EPA has rested with John Boehner and the Republican House since january 2010. They funded it to the tune of $8.2 billion in 2014, up from $7.9 billion in 2013. Apparently they are pleased with the performance and have rewarded the agency with additional funding.
