Masterpiece - Hercule Poirot - "The Big Four"

Synopsis - On the cusp of World War II, the "Peace Party" hosts a grand reception in an effort to demonstrate international unity, the climax of which is a chess match between the reclusive Russian chess master, Dr. Ivan Savaranoff, and Peace Party funder, tycoon Abe Ryland. Poirot watches, riveted, as the match begins, and suddenly Savaranoff keels over, dead! Is his death the first move of The Big Four, a sinister, secret society bent on tipping the world into chaos? When Ryland then disappears, Poirot must team up with old friend, (former) Inspector Japp, to unravel a mystery that has captured the attention of the world.

Storyline - A Russian grand master dies mysteriously during an international chess match. The case is related to a political intrigue involving the so-called Peace Party and its leaders Madame Olivier and Abe Ryland. Poirot investigates with his old friends Hastings, Japp and lemon, helped by a reporter and a minor actress, but the quartet must soon fight a dangerous battle with the Big Four, a secret society manipulating for their own personal chess game a great number of international celebrities.
